I get that, though presumably you're having this conversation with more than one person, right? If you even felt the need to reply directly to that example, then you could simply say "Nah, I loved it. And I really like the way the action scenes are getting more brutal all the time, etc... " and carry on.

But yes, while I totally support people's right to have negative opinions, sometimes it just comes off as being a killjoy for no good reason.

That's unfortunate, but part of the game. On the other hand, if you want a pretty relentlessly positive discussion thread, you should check out the MTMTE comics discussions. Those have been shockingly positive. It's really weirding me out. :lol

True... though in most of those cases, the real issue is not the difference in opinion, but a bad attitude in one or more of the people involved. Expressing a negative opinion should not mean a carte blanche to be a douche about it. So I'm with you there.

I think it's very hard to engage in a debate here if nobody replies to you. It takes two for that. I find that most threads here often have multiple conversations going on throughout, and that's fine. I just reply to the comments that I feel relate to me, or those that seem to be asking for a response, and skip all the rest. :)

See? This is a debate, not an argument. Good job, Prowl and Smog. You've earned my respect.

This thread was originally supposed to be about the lack of realism when it comes to social development between the characters and how that can be improved in the future.

Now this thread appears to have become one of nitpicking on everything about the show and how some individuals are having trouble enjoying the show for reasons unrelatable to the OP.

You could make the same statement about the whole TF: Prime forum.

Come to think of it since Animated had the same leel of complaints when it first aired from what I've heard I wonder if it also has the same types of arguments concerning the level of the love and rants about the show like Prime's getting right now?

Is there a point you're trying to make? All you're doing is stating obvious stuff that I already know, most of which is barely relevant to my post.

Yeah. This show could use some light hearted moments between the characters. And more courage on using and fleshing out ideas that last a long time instead of 15 minutes. And less predictability.

I do agree that the show is somewhat bland and un-fun.

I still love the show, probably because it's the first Transformers show I can bear watching in a long time, but yes, it does have a distinct lack of fun and realism.

For example, why not have the Vehicons interact with each other in a way similar to the Droids in SW:CW? Have a day off from the war once in a while, stuff like that.

This is exactly the point. I entered this argument with my son’s point of view in mind. Split Lip and Megabattimus still haven't answered the question I asked in my previous post: have you seen this show from a child's point of view?

Megabattimus sites comics and shows with more mature themes and stronger writing, stories that often fail to appeal to my son. My son loves American super heroes for whatever reason he has, but he cannot sit down and watch an entire episode of JLU or the like. The problem: there is too much story for him to follow. Comics are guilty of this too, what they can’t do with pictures they must do with words. If I ever read a Transformers comic to my son, I’d have to read it to him in a way that he’d understand. Thank goodness for HarperCollins and HarperFestival’s for making that task easier for me with their I Can Read Transformers stories.

Personally, I think the staff of Transformers Prime has hit the sweet spot; they’ve won my son over and have done enough to keep me interested.

    Right!

The way I look at it TF Prime is a great show that the whole family (Star Wars/Star Trek) can enjoy, no other Transformers show has pulled that off not even the great Beast Wars (often times being forced to put slap stick to cover the more serious tones).

The IDW comics are excellent (especially lately) but it is designed for a more mature auidence (think Starship Troopers/Aliens/Armor).

If it help you stabilize I can point you towards some utterly shattered fandoms.:D

Let me just say this, I feel Prime is okay. Not horrible. IT IS OKAY. got that? I don't hate it. I don't hate you for loving it. Capisce?

But I'm not going to call it great or pretend it has no flaws just because "it's for kids!" Because their are truly great shows, books and so on that were made for kids. In much the same way that I won't put up with a horrible set of movies jut because "Their mindless action flicks!"

I have my standards and no ""it's for x" can change that, shows for kids can be great, shows for men can be great, shows for woman can be great, movies with lots of action can be great. The audience doesn't change that standards can be applied.

did we watch the same Star Trek episodes? They were VERY story heavy and often had very little action.

Do you just suck at reading? Because you missed this:

To add to that, there have always been 4 things I have looked for in ANY form of media, be it a cartoon or otherwise. Does it have a good story? Does it have interesting characters? Is it any fun? Is the action good?

I formed that criteria by watching things like Toy Story, Star Wars, Star Trek, anime, like Digimon and Pokemon, and cartoons, like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003), at a young age. Most of my favourite cartoons, movies, comics, anime and video games tick all the boxes. Prime only ticks one maybe two boxes at a stretch, which is frustrating because it the writers have the ability to write a fantastic show that ticks all the boxes, but for whatever reason, they choose not to.

I'm going to say this again because some people can't read: I LIKE Prime. It's why I bring up the things that frustrate me about it. If I didn't like the show, I would have dropped it ages ago.

Errrr... are you sure you're replying to the right person? Because my point was that Prime is only okay, and is ultimately pretty bland, and has sort of failed to find a meaningful balance between kid show and something stimulating for adults. So I think we actually fully agree on that point.

Yeah, that's great. A bad kid show is still a bad kid show. A lousy action movie is still a bad movie. HOWEVER... what you're neglecting here is that while obviously all films or TV should be well-done and "interesting", they also all have very different proscriptions and expectations. It's not whether they can be good or bad... it's about HOW you evaluate them.

Sure you can think that a romantic comedy is great and then watch a horror film, which might also be great. But they are not necessarily great for the same reasons. You don't judge an action movie by the same criteria you would judge a historical drama. And you don't judge a show aimed at selling toys to kids by the same measure you would apply to a comic book aimed squarely at 30-year-olds.

    - IDW's More Than Meets the Eye is very good (especially by the very low standards of TF comics... let's be honest)
    - Transformers Prime is rather weak as far as adult entertainment goes
    - as children's commercial shows go, Prime is decent

I think it makes sense to at least acknowledge that different genres and forms have different associations and qualities. You can't judge them all by a universal measure. It just wouldn't make sense.

Kind of meant in the fact that it was a family program and it can be enjoyed at all ages but, you are very much correct yes.

Star Trek is incredibly cerebral, at least from TNG on. I wouldn't watch it with my kids.

Seeing that I over looked this, I guess I do.

Sounds like you were an unusual four year old, story isn't at the top of my four year old's list. Interesting characters, fun and action however, are things that do click with him, and he sees these things in Transformers Prime.

You want more out of Transformers Prime. I get it. I don't think we'll ever see the story you want to see as the current staff feels the road they're going down is the right one. I find it hard to argue otherwise when I see that they have captured the interest of my four year old and those older than him. What are they doing wrong?
