I'm reading the novel 'Exodus' at the moment an it's pretty obvious that although they are similar there's huge numbers of inconsistencies.

But that said I'll probably use WFC Shockwave as Prime Shockwave until they make another one that changes that. and I would be willing to say it's a valid theory to say Shockwave was involved in creating the Insecticons until proven otherwise.

I'd use it as a rule of thumb - until it's contradicted.

It's a valid starting point though on many issue - I would for example expect Prime Optimus to greet Jazz as an old and valued friend and not act like he'd never seen him before (like he did with Wheeljack). and I would expect Ultra Magnus to be the head of the Wreckers and carry a big hammer as that is consistent with the toy appearance and how he's described in the book.

I look on the novels as being a bit like the various books of the Christian Gospels they tell many of the same events but they disagree about some of the details - and I expect that Prime will continue to disagree about some of the details with WFC/FOC and the Novels too.

For example Arcee being a blue two wheeler and not a pink full size Autobot. Or how Skyquake gave no loyalty or concern at all to Starscream despite him being the head of all "Seekers" in the Novels. Not to mention that the Game/Novel version of Wheeljack probably isn't a bomb carrying Ninja either.

Or how it's implied that there's more than one kind of Insecticon in the novels but that TV show just has one sort.

I would however take many of the things to be much the same in both like the basic story of Optimus' ascension to Prime status or the broad template of the story of the Primes.

But i'd not be at all surprised if say Prime as a show decided to make Solus Prime 'not dead'.

Oh and I was wondering did anyone consider that the spark infecting the Warship might be 'The Fallen' (same voice actor after all). If he'd been trapped inside Unicron he might have been released bodyless when Unicron's Spark was evaporated.

Airachnid wasn't going to participate in the air battle. She'd hang around waiting for either her troops to win or Megatron's troops to win. Should Megatron win, she'd have just dropped off the radar swearing revenge again.

Optimus obviously wanted Airachnid done and over with. Waiting for two enemies to kill each other is a gamble, especially if the chances of meeting up with one of them again are this favorable (Airachnid out in the open and surprised)

Also, Optimus is a prime. You seem to forget that the council that appointed him are all in likelihood Veterans of past wars (there were past wars prior to the golden age, otherwise where the heck did the bots get their weaponry). Since the title of Prime basically is the title of a king (commander of all military), the council wouldn't be so light handed with this appointment. Even if they had not been paying attention to Cyberton's civil labor plight, I doubt that they would be dumb enough to be swayed by a great speech. These guys have seen it all. They obviously thought that Optimus Prime would be a great leader and commander of Cyberton.

Which is why I compared it to the G1 cartoon and comics. Just as the cartoon and comics were both G1, the games, novels, and Prime are all Aligned. And the first novel contradicts itself, not just WfC and Prime.

^this. Stupid Miko is going to fiddle around with some stuff and accidentally release Arachnid. The insecticons will once again be under her control and rebell against megatron. And then they will come after the autobots whose secret location has now been compromised since Arachnid is there. Possibly Optimus and Megatron will have to join forces to defeat Arachnid and the Insecticons, and of course they will be successful, but the joint victory will be short lived as Megatron will then gain the upper hand to turn against Prime after the Arachnid threat has been eliminated. just some ideas

Though I'm not a Miko hater, I can't disagree. Here messing around is in her character. Now, I can't see an alliance between Prime and Megatron this soon after the alliance against Unicron.

I don't think Optimus had shot at anything more than a pop up target before being named a Prime.

Oh and another difference between Prime /The Novels and the games is that although the council appointed Prime in a similar way in Prime and the Exodus Novel

I think he was anointed by Primus in the game in a different way (not sure though as I've not played the game yet).

He seems to make a lot of the same foolish mistakes Movie Prime does though too.

Movie-Prime is years ahead in strategy than his Prime-self, for one, he's far more pragmatic [condemning and executing Megatron, The Fallen and Sentinel] and actually a relatively good planner [see DOTM, where he faked his death, foreseeing the 'Cons plan perfectly], not Sun Tzu material, but not nearly as bad as Prime-Optimus is.

Most of his mistakes were due things he genuinely had no way of knowing [such as Sentinel being evil].
