megatron is the decepticon leader, period, though it is a cool concept this would not work, soundwave is just another 2nd rate decepticon, megatron is the decepticon movement, without him it does not exist,to compair megatron to Vader and soundwave to sidious is a stretch, there are no similarities between those 4 characters whatsoever.

Sounds to me that you are just dumbing Soundwave down. 2nd rate? Not at all. He is just as talented and specialized as any other Decepticon in the show.
Besides, Megatron has been absent many times and the movement continued well. Who was holding it together? Soundwave.
I was using those SW characters as examples as to what I speculate is happening here. Megatron, however, is DEFINITELY like Anakin/Vader. He is a fallen hero that was famous for his power and skill and had always fought for peace and justice. Megatron, like Anakin, was corrupted and became one of the most feared beings in the universe (galaxy).
If what I have said about Soundwave is true, then he could be like Palpatine because he is manipulating everyone in his own little game.
    Palpatine/Sidious started the clone wars.
Soundwave probably started the Cybertronian war (along with Megatron).
Palpatine seduced Anakin to the Dark Side.
Soundwave could have persuaded Megatron to help him in the war and give him an army of drones to do it.
Anakin didn't become a Council MASTER like he wanted.
Megatron didn't become a Prime like he wanted.
    It makes sense.

@Transformed: Out of all your counter-points, the only one that has me stumped is Soundwave's "hate" for Arachnid. I guess saying that he feels emotions is a bit of a stretch since there is nothing to prove that he feels emotions.
The rest of your points....I already covered on the second page, which you apparently didn't read.
As for Soundwave having a Decepticon symbol head.....yes I know he has always had that but now it is more noticable and he does have an unusual amount of purple on him compared to past generations. Besides, the writers may have thought that is was about time Soundwave's design had more "reason" behind it. The fact that he always had a Decepti-head but no explanation is kinda jarring.
Your comment on Megatron makes you kinda bias. That's not to say your arguements would be invalid but it doesn't make your statements quite valid either.

I was told the exact same thing when I speculated that Beast Wars Season 2 would end with Megatron finding the Ark and blasting the Autobots while they were asleep.

Jolly good show. I like this post.

I think that the writers are grooming Soundwave for something big. I also think that this might play into their fondness for big revelations that screw with the heads of longtime TF fans (Unicron = Earth). I'm not sure they will take it as far as you though.

Soundwave might be the Palpatine to Megatron's Vader, but I have a feeling that if they ever start to work at cross purposes Megatron will put the visor-face in his place no matter WHAT Soundwave thinks their relationship really is. :D

while the example of Vader and megatron you talk about is true(I stand corrected)the example of soundwave and palpatine is not, soundwave was just another gladiator along with megatron,he followed and follows megatron, nowhere in any TF's story does soundwave "secretly" lead, megatron started the WFC because he was enraged over orion pax given the title of prime,he felt betrayed by pax and seperated himself and his "followers"(soundwave included) from the soon to be named autobots,so your half right on the star wars crossover but still, soundwave is a follower, not a leader.

While this a very, very cool idea, this has as much of a chance of being true as all those theories that Gunter from Adventure time is the real villain of that series.

    Which saddens me greatly. ._.

If it was true, I'd get angry that the writers ripped you off since it is a brilliant theory.

I used these examples as a way of making my speculation easier to understand. Though Megatron is indeed like Anakin/Vader, Soundwave being compared to Palpatine was meant to represent what I'm implying, not what I am stating as a source or fact. Soundwave is not confirmed to be like Palpatine in the show.
    Where is this from?!
There is always a first. The Transformers Lore doesn't have a strict canon so anything is possible. From what has been shown, there isn't much reason to believe that Soundwave is loyal to Megatron like some pawn. There is room to speculate they are partners. There is room to speculate that Megatron could not have created the Decepticon name but rather enforced it so it would seem like he did.
I know this. I'm just attempting to fill in the blanks.
This is the story I'm getting at here:
Before Megatron and Optimus met up with the council on the Prime matter, Soundwave and Megatron may have come across each other. Soundwave and his spawns are prepared for battle but they need Megatron, the greatest Cybertronian warrior at present time, to enforce their cause. Megatron states that he would comply only if he was not made a Prime. Unfortunately, things go downhill. Megatron does not become a Prime. He is driven by jealousy and hate and makes the choice of representing Soundwave's cause. To decimate any Cybertronian that stands against them and change the planet for their control. They would then eliminate every trace of the Primes so as not to expect a suprise uprising. A smart bot like Soundwave could only calculate this so well.
Again, SPECULATION. It's just by some terms, reasonable speculation.
Soundwave has led. He has directed drones and twist matters to his favor. He stopped Starscream from killing Wheeljack and ended Arachnid's place as temporary leader by keeping the ship in place.
When it comes to the Decepticons, fear is a source of dominance and therefore dictates the type of leadership that the Decepticons have. If Soundwave can manhandle bots his size (which is every con but Megs, Breakdown, Insecticons, and the seekers (Skyquake, Dreadwing)), then the chances of him manhandling everybody is pretty big. It's no mystery that Breakdown is outclassed and the Insecticons don't think tactically (they're probably his spawns anyway). The Seekers are just wrecking brutes. Megatron is the questionable one here.
With that said, of course Soundwave can lead. He just doesn't want to because he doesn't want anyone to emphasize his ability to dominate so he doesn't become a target in the grand scheme of things. He has Megatron to cover for that. (again, this is speculation)
This "deal" that I have formulated based on their relationship in the show is that Megatron does what Soundwave wants for dominance and power (as usual) but in return, Soundwave's forces will be stationed all over the universe with no opposition and the universe itself will become Soundwave's evergrowing web.

lol Now that I think about, I kinda hope I'm wrong. If what I speculate is true then there won't be any suprises for me and anyone who read this thread.....

thanks btw for the comment on my theory:D

the blanks have already been filled in though, before megatron and prime met up prime was orion pax,a clerk, megatron and soundwave were gladiators, prime and megatron became friends until pax became prime and then the war started,in all that soundwave was a loyal "follower" and fellow gladiator of megatron and HIS decepticon movement.

Who says Soundwave needs to DIRECTLY controlled Megatron he simply may have manipulated Megatron to suit his own needs what ever they may be. Megatron thinks hes in charge but really soundwave is pulling some strings to control the Decepticons and keep Megatron in the dark.
So Megatron is Soundwaves puppet and he has no idea about it.

Or yeah hes just a loyal badass follower.

@Omegatron: I looked up this "Exodus" and it doesn't particularly say that it ties in with Transformers Prime. It says "The Official History for the War for Cybertron". I highly doubt that. Transformers has no exact canon. Some of Prime's characters are extremely new in the light of their personalities and designs. The idea of a book that is somehow supposed to be the same history for different generations is insanely out of place.
Soundwave? Gladiator? Those two just don't go together. How could a thin high-tech computer bot with a minion stored in his chest possibly be a warrior that fights in an arena? I'm not saying that Soundwave couldn't do that but it just doesn't fit his persona whatsoever.
My guess: The book is just marketing material.
With that said, the blanks can't be filled in. Ratchet skimmed over the history that occured between Optimus and Megatron. I doubt Ratchet knew the entire story. Heck, I doubt even Optimus knew the entire story. Megatron, however, would since he is the guy who decided to cut the rope. With Soundwave being one of the forerunners that started the war alongside Megatron, it is acceptable to speculate that Soundwave is, in some way, behind it.
I haven't quite solidified my speculation as to how Soundwave would be "using" Megatron though. Like Deltus and other members on here have said, it is possible that Soundwave is manipulating Megatron without leverage. Still, I also speculate that Soundwave has something over Megatron.
From what I have observed from recent posts in this thread, people seem to dismay the idea of Megatron not being the big boss and the idea that Soundwave is more than some loyal con. Yet the following has already happened in past generations. I find it puzzling that this kind of doubt exists knowing that we have had:
Cybertron (Unicron trilogy)- Soundwave is apparently some kind of spawn created my Unicron and betrays Megatron in order to serve Starscream.
Animated- Soundwave is an independant lab creation conducted by Megatron that serves the Decepticon name but not necesarily Megatron.
Revenge of the Fallen- Megatron serves the Fallen and happily calls him master (unlike the novel.....which is where Megs and Screamer actually had some pride.....).
Dark of the Moon- Megatron happily works with Sentinal Prime. It is only after Sentinal shows his tyrannical side that Megatron thinks twice. Otherwise, Megatron was perfectly content with his deals with a Prime.

I go by exodus because it explains the origins of the two TF's factions and the key players in the war,in ANY TF's story there was always the war that split cybertron, and I am going to take published stories over someones "idea" any day of the week,I gave you credit that your idea was cool but its not going to happen, and yes no matter how you feel about it soundwave was a gladiator and is under megatrons rule, end of story for me.

also, though TF's has no "official" canon, this book explains alot of things and I personally like the way it was written so instead of making up my own story or going by someone elses ideas that are just that, ideas,I choose to use exodus for my TF's canon.

The book is particularly meant to be part of the "Aligned" continuity family (that War for Cybertron, the books, and TFP are part of; "Aligned" is a fan-based term), while they may not line up EXACT (strict technicalities) big points are meant to be within continuity (maybe John Barber can clean shit up?) While there may have been initial intentions with other continuities, as it stands, Exodus and Exiles are meant to coincide with TFP (and WFC/FoC).

Just like with human gladiators of ancient Rome, gladiators came in many sizes, colors, and of each sex. You also need to take into account how many thousands/millions of years ago that's supposed to take place in. Soundwave was a gladiator, but when the war went off, those matches weren't as frequent, and many took up new occupations in the war effort. While it isn't explained what caste Soundwave was put in, he nonetheless was a gladiator who fought Megatron...and nearly bested him. To this day, he still proves to be a formidable warrior, when required (Airachnid and Arcee both learned that).

So is the entirety of the Transformers universe outside of the actual toys; that includes; shows, movies, web animations, books, comics, printed advertising, commercials, biographies, clubs, conventions, panels, interviews, and the like.

Yep, if the books are to be considered direct canon.

I'm going to guess Optimus does, being a part of it, and a Prime, also a data clerk tends to help with memorization. Though when Ratchet was telling the story, Optimus wasn't there to correct any mistakes. It could be seen that Ratchet doesn't know some info/has not-quite-as-desired memory capabilities.

Yep, him and Shockwave were the two closest to Megatronus (not necessarily on a personal level), Megatronus was the plans, Soundwave was the intel, and Shockwave was the science.

Soundwave is my favourite in the show and I would love this. But the writers are just not that creative. It's too smart of a plot for something as simple as Transformers

How do you know that? The writer may indeed pull it off later on. I know that the latest episode didn't leave a good taste on out mouthes but don't label off the writers as not being creative enough yet. The show's not finished yet and if they were able to pull some unexpected things at us last season then there's a good chance that the same will be for this season. Even Beast Wars and animated had their shares of it.

I'm not trying to be argumentive here I'm just saying let's see what it may bring us first that's all.

The last season was predictable. Cliffjumper's death was the most unpredictable moment for me. I can say what I want.

It's true that you can say what you want it's your opinon after all,but what about Optimus's sudden memroy loss in the end of season 1? You can't say that was predicatble at least.
