It's a different Grimlock? I haven't really been keeping up with all the news or information about these characters.

Depends. I personally ignore the video games, Prime and RID are their own continuity.

The Aligned Continuity is a huge mess since it's composed of media that was never meant to be pieced together in the first place since pretty much everyone had their own ideas of continuity and visions clash. That's why I don't consider them part of the same continuity either, but I do keep the Aligned idea in mind since it makes great writing material.

Explanation about different Grimlock came from a tweet from the show creator. It's independent from an earlier video game.

Yes but politics rarely have to do with the truth.

Its interesting because it feels like a small throwback to Prime, where Optimus acknowledged that things could go bad politically

I still think the Quintessons can be part of this new Council

For who would be part of this council I can actually see Tyrest himself be in this since he isn't afraid to use dark methods to get things done and he's messed up in the head.

So TransTech's backstory? Optimus and Megatron would have to team up again.

Oh man Liege Maximo, now that would have been more worthwhile than Megatronus the jobber.

It'd be cool if they did Tyrest.

I'm still not sure how the "movie" is going to work?

I'm pretty sure Decepticon Island was building up the corrupt council angle for a reason. I'd love to see what they do with it, as it's an interesting idea. I'm sure Megatron will show up again too, maybe to help them fight off the new council. Or, maybe Megatron's heel-face turn at the end of Predacons Rising was false, and he was secretly spreading propaganda about how he and his Decepticons restored Cybertron, and now he's pulling the strings in secret...? Or maybe Predaking took over and he's in charge of a council that barely tolerates Autobots and hates Decepticons?

I honestly don't want Megatron good. I never felt like he earned his heel face turn.

I'd rather he'd just skulk off to the universe as a lonely drifter of some kind.

I'd prefer if he was more of an Anti-Hero, rather than being good or evil.

I think there's no redemption for Megatron. He's always been a complete and utter tyrant, and redeeming him screws up an interesting villain and ruins his backstory. Sure, he changed sides in IDW, but that was better then what Prime pulled.

I think for now Megatron's just had enough og fighting and it is just living off on his own. It was even said in Predacons Rising that he never changed to be good only fed up with the fighting. If he's going to have a redemption story it'd be better off in another series where we can explore it properly. After all IDW Megatron didn't change to be a good guy quickly when he got the Autobot badge.

    Unfortunately, no.

Remember the dead Prime's arm Megatron used so he could activate the Forge Of Solus Prime and create the Dark Star Saber? Covenant of Primus confirmed it was Liege Maximo's arm that Megatron stole from the tomb on Cybertron in Prime which means Liege Maximo is dead so that theory is off the table.

The Quintesson theory though I could see happening. That or Shockwave. Hell, I could also see Megatron coming back, taking over the Council, and upgrading himself into Galvatron.

I hope that the council arc will explain the animalistic Decepticons. I love their designs but an in story reasoning would cover the one hole I can't get over in RID.

Hmm, Liege Maximo showed up in the Trials of Optimus Prime book. Although it can be said that story's canonicity is questionable.

They could get around that fact by just pretending that the arm from Prime wasn't actually from LM at all, just a random Prime. Prime and RID don't follow the previous Aligned continuities too faithfully at all. They erroneously referred to it as Sentinel Prime's arm at one point too, so they do fudge things when it suits their needs.

I do think using LM is a lame idea. I am kind of hoping they loosely adapt Mtmte with Shockwave taking over the council and maybe Megatron trying to atone for his past deeds by teaming up with Bumblebee.

Well the Covenant of Primus is the end-all-be-all guide to the Aligned Continuity since it does cover the novels, games AND Prime, so that's what I'm going by.
