I have the same problem with both. They both sound too young and like they're trying to sound scary. Any one agree? Also John Noble's Unicron was OK but I ended up liking it,its kinda hard competing with Orson Wells.
Predaking was awesome. I like John Noble's Unicron a lot even if it does sound like he's trying to be a giant. Gil Gerard's Megatronus is one of the worst castings the franchise has had.
I liked Predaking's voice but he had a certain buildup to when he talked. Megatronus... I already can't remember what he sounded like other than "trying to sound menacing deep but not a naturally deep voice". He came out of nowhere as the Season One villain 5 episodes before the end and then he's gone? Yawn. Steeljaw, him I like. I like a lot of the other Decepticon voices like Thunderhoof and Fracture.
Unicron is just "meh". He's just your typical Demi god who wants to destroy the good guys. He's my least favorite antagonist in the TF franchise. Most writers only use him when they don't have a more creative choice. Megatronus and Predaking had great VAs.
Well, Predaking was young. I mean, he was only a few weeks to months old when he first spoke. If anything, the fact he sounds like an adult makes the voice sound too old (not that I wanted him to sound like a baby).
I still thought he voice had a youthful tone despite being voiced by a VA in his mid fifties, one that isn't even a VA by trade.
Megatronus' voice was awful. Like someone purposely making a deep or "evil" voice to sound cool in front of their friends at a party. Predaking was just fine, and Mensah did good in his role. John Noble sounded cool in his first appearance but just phoned it in for Predacons Rising.
Agreed. They really should have brought Tony Todd back. i mean they got KMR, David Kaye and John DiMaggio who all had roles in Prime back for RID as new guys. Todd has a real presence in his voice, even if the character suuuuuuucked.
I know I'm a little late to the party on this one as I didn't see the final two episodes of the first season until they aired on Cartoon Network. But man, that voice for Megatronus really was awful. And I'm not one who's usually too picky on voices.
Predaking was great. I loved that, despite his alt mode, he didn't have any sort of growl to his voice. It was a nice change of pace. Megatronus.... I won't say I hated it, but it could've been better. Just a generic, deep villain voice. Also, John Noble did a great Unicron. But maybe that's my John Noble bias talking
I don't know anything about Megatronus' VA, but to me it sounded like a normal voice that had been "turned" deep by fiddling with the audio. As opposed to someone who naturally had / could do a deep voice (like the late Orson Welles). It sounded terrible. It actually sounded closer to a generic Dumb Guy voice than a generic villain voice to me.
I don't like Predaking as a character but his voice was ok. Unicron was good, even though he had a weird accent. Megatronus was a joke. I can't really blame the actor though, it was the terrible writing that was mostly at fault. He sounded like Zordon. And I still don't understand why he is wearing a Decepticon insignia.
