When talking on the TFYLP podcast last night, Rik Alvarez, formerly of Hasbro, got to talking about the MASK reference in TFPrime. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5bZos4Ft6Ok He said that he had talked to Aaron Archer at the time of leaving open the possibility of a MASK spinoff idea. The Autobot headquarters was reduced to a hill of boulders after the series ended. Fowler was to return to the HQ and make it the MASK HQ once the Transformers left earth (I assume using various tech they got from the Transformers and MECH). Yep, the Autobot headquarters would be have become MASK's HQ, aka Boulder Hill.
That's a shame that didn't go anywhere. I would have liked a MASK cartoon...i'm just desperate for some new action cartoons so.
There is also a direct reference to MASK in around about episode 5 of Beast Hunters. Fowler tells Prime his new alternate mode is based on something their MASK division whipped up. Between the two things, it seems like MASK was being set up as "out there". It wouldn't surprise me if MECH would have returned in that series as a villain faction.
I heard that TFP is leading into a show called "Robots In Disguise". Sounds interesting right? In all seriousness I hope this MASK idea is further explored.
Awww, I would love to see a new MASK series! Especially if it came from TFP! Why didnt we get a new MASK by the way? :S With all the 80's toons getting new versions, its weird we havent even get a pilot. :S
Same reason we haven't got a new Inhumanoids series.... seriously Hasbro try all of your old ideas again. also D'Compose. Charlie Adler or Steve Blum as his VA in memory of Chris Latta's take.
Yeah, we know Aaron Archer was pushing for a revamp and return of the Inhumanoids too. He put some art of his web site of a new Tendril. I think maybe that's why Aaron picked to design the not-Octopunch from Play With This Too, he's jus getting his inner Inhumanoid out! If we could only give Aaron rights to that show and let him make it.
I haven't seen the new RID show yet (I will get to that...eventually), but I THINK (more like hope) that there is still room for a M.A.S.K. spinoff. Didn't really grow up with M.A.S.K. or anything, but the concept of a revival is enough to pique my interest. Side note: maybe MECH could turn into the infamous VENOM organization? Or perhaps MECH was a division of VENOM...
