Actually, Cybertronians get named either for attributes, cheesy alt.mode puns, occupations, or leadership role.

Actually, there's some precidence for all of that:

Airrazor - sure, it's originally the first female TF to get a toy in this franchise, but this isn't the first time a guy's used the name. Hasbro assigned it as the replacement name for Slingshot during 2009 when the Superion Maximus set (G1 colors) was released to the eastern market in Universe 2.0 packaging, then later the west as part of ROTF (same exact toys, different packaging).

Slipstream - this one's actually able to be taken as a sort of a reverse homage to the origin of Ani. Slipstream's colors: Overlord. The original Overlord was powered by a male powermaster and a female powermaster. Plus, Ani. Slipstream was the embodiment of a part of Starscream so that probably should be taken into account somehow as well.

Fracture - well, this one was a placeholder name and not actually meant to be the name of the toy assigned this name, since "Crasher" isn't exactly suitable for trademarking.

    You sure about that?

I mean, in the example link I posted, the name "Robert" is an altered version of a Germanic name that, directly translated, means "Bright Fame" based on the two root words forming the original name spelling.

Or, going over to a Japanese example: Hatsune Miku, international virtual singing idol and music making software. According to Wikipedia: The name of the character comes from merging the Japanese words for first (初 hatsu?), sound (音 ne?) and future (Miku (ミク?))"

The first two yes...Fracture not so much because Fracture was just a name replacement for Crasher.

I'm sure they'll find a new name for Crasher.

That is a perspective I understand and am okay with.

I mentioned Longarm as a response to the user who said I was being a chauvinist for applying Prowl to a female character, that's all it was.

Well, Airachnid sounds like a species/genus name of flying robotic spiders, so it's fairly neutral to me.

And Victorion is evocative of the names Victoria and Victor.

Yeah, a Transformer's name usually describes some aspect about them. And in carrying over into successive generations, it's usually some similar aspect from a previous generation which fits into the new generation.

Victorion is closer to Victory which was the goddess of victory in Roman myth just like Nike was in Greek myth.

I remember seeing posts of Fracture made by people who genuinely thought he'd be the female gobot rename. "Oh, look at her." "She's so beautiful." Even if it was obviously not the case. Doesn't really bother me since the name "Crasher" still exists, and 'Fracture' had very little page time in the comics if I recall.

But yeah, that aside I'm still a little peeved myself that these are the official Slipstream and Airazor of aligned now.

I would have been cool with Fracture being a girl even though Kevin Pollak is an excellent VA for him.

The think names like air razor and slipstream work for these new minicons given the fact they get launched through the air, transformers has always reused names, are people upset about fix it, or strongarm being name reuses of older characters? Hell , bulkhead came from energon, and hotshot was used as a name in rid/car robots before we got the jaam loving bot from Armada, and need I remind y'all of the four or five characters named scourge? Besides, the fact that Hasbro's still has the rights to the name airazor means we may get a classic be one at some point :)  ( that reminds me of inferno too (bw and g1) )

No they're not. I hate to repeat the "there is no Aligned" but WFC and Exiles used Slipstream as a female Seeker. The Minicons are only the Slipstream and Airazor in the cartoons, although, that's currently all there is in Aligned. Besides, RID15 and Rescue Bots are all about new characters.

Agreed on all accounts. It'd be cool for there to be a female bounty hunter character in the future.

I'm kind of defining Aligned as "Prime + RID + Rescuebots." at the moment.

Even if they're about introducing new characters, using names of old female characters still pretty much closes the lid on those characters making an appearance.

Like I said, the Aligned cartoons have become mostly about new characters, such as Strongarm.

For the most part the names are fine. Strongarm's name is very fitting since there's the phrase "Strong arm of the law" and she's a very by the book cop.

Hammerstrike's name is also fine and considering how he turned out (and keep in mind I don't have a problem with the character) I'm glad he didn't take Cybershark or Sky-Byte's names.

The only names I take issue with are AirRazor and Jetstorm. Since the incarnations of AirRazor and Jetstorm that I'm most familiar with are a Maximal and a Vehicon respectively I think I would have preffered it if one the Autobot Mini-cons got AirRazor's name and Jetstorm's name given to one of the Decepticon Mini-cons.

If they were going to give the name to a Decepticon anyway, I think Filch should have gotten AirRazor's name.

remember when Dragstrip was made female? yea, we'd never see the end of the complaints if Prowl was.

I see no problem with the name Strongarm, or any of the names used. and i'd prefer they use the names that they are using, since this allows them to establish completely new characters from those names.

completely new characters, something which transformers desperately needs.

Oh man a female bounty hunter sounds so cool.

Same that's how I imagine Alligned is suppose to be.

Drag Strip will always be a girl to me from now on.

I'm not a fan of Terrashock's name (just feels weird to me), but it seems fitting. But those minicons? Some of their names don't make a lick of sense. It's like they just pulled them out of a hat.

Fair, but since when haven't Mini-Cons names been pulled out of a hat?

The nameslaps are true to the franchise.

Yeah, well Drag Strip is an unfortunate name; it means “racing racility”, and in another context it refers to women’s clothing and their removal. (Somebody at Hasbro was very naughty when picking that particular designation for a fembot).

Prowl at least sounds like a superheroine title.

And it’s weird that so many people are looking at the female names (Strongarm, Airazor, Slipstream); my complaint extends further than those three, including the Decepticon names.

    YouTube (Legacy):
I myself have no issue wit the names in the sence of faction or "gender". but I do think that divebomb and Air Raizor should have been swaped.

also, With this Whole "aligned continuity" thing, th Covenant of Primus confirmes that WfC and FoC is not part of it.
