Since Sideswipe's background is up in the air at the moment, I'm wondering what everyone thinks would be a good backstory for him.

Answers to questions like, where is Sunstreaker, why was Sideswipe in Kaon and if he was in the War with Bumblebee, why hasn't he been given a position in Cybertrons new society?

 

Maybe he isnt sunstreakers brother or he just doesnt exist.
By that logic, Why were'nt Arcee, Bulkhead, Smokescreen, Wheeljack, and Ultra Magnus with him?
Maybe he didnt want one, Why is Bumblebee only a street cop?

 

I hope they just ignore the WFC Sideswipe character, it would be a waste of time bogging down a character with backstory that doesn't even fit with the new version.

 

Maybe this Sideswipe took the name from the original. Wouldn't be the first time in the Aligned series that a bot took someone's name as their own.

I don't care what it is, I'd be happy if he got a backstory at all. The fact that none of the Prime bots had one was really disappointing for me.

 

From what we can gather in the first episode. Sideswipe was a street punk delinquent that Bumblebee often ran into.

I wouldn't mind an origin episode, he's a character that could use one.

 

i don't remember but when did sideswipe say he was in kaon or what episode was that information given

 

Episode 3- He states that Steeljaw acting too cool reminded him of someone, maybe we will find out

 

In Ep 10 Bee told Jazz that he and Strongarm were in patrol in Kaon City in Pilot (Part 1) and that is where they found Sideswipe.

 

I spent waaayyyy too much time thinking about this, but here's my take on a plausible backstory for Swipe:

He is the younger of a set of twin brothers. His older twin, Sunstreaker, is gifted in the art of painting and is favored by their parents because of that. With Sunny showcasing his talent and their parents focusing their pride and attention on him, Swipe is often forgotten about and left to his own devices. His racing and show boating is his way of trying to get any kind of attention. As a result, he often gets into trouble with the local authorities, which draws the wrong kind of attention from his family. Fed up, Swipe runs away in search of a place to fit in. He ends up in Kaon, where he has many run ins with Bumblebee. For his part, Bee can see that Sideswipe is a good kid who just wants attention but goes about it in the wrong way (I believe Bee said something along those same lines to Strongarm when they arrested Swipe on Cybertron). Somewhere along the way, Swipe studied some form of Cybertronian martial arts that included how to fight with a sword.

Not every Sideswipe needs to have a Bro called Sunstreaker...

And let's not get started with trying to make this RID Sideswipe Canon with Sideswipe ' s WFC appearance.

 

I'll be impressed with whoever wants to take up that challenge! XD

 

There's plenty of ideas for this:
1) This Sideswipe just took the namesake of the other character.
2) WFC Sideswipe died and this is just the same character reincarnated with a much more youth-driven personality. The former was the Ark's pilot and a turbo-revving punk while this version is just a turbo-revving punk.
3) This incarnation's prototype name was Fastlane so perhaps Hasbro changed the name because Sideswipe's more popular/marketable.
4) The character shift is a result of the show's contrasting tone to Aligned's previous "war-centered" theme.
5) This is only used as a last resort - F*ck character consistency for any Autobot not named Bumblebee or Optimus.

 

I'll take it- And toss in some world building.

Early in the war, Autobot High Command decided that they wanted as few Branched Sparks in the field as possible, due to the psychological toll one's death would take on the other. Initially, preexisting Autobots with this condition were held back from service- sent to Praxus with the other civilians, and warborn Sparks with it were stashed away until peacetime.

However, as the war heated up (all this is after, but not caused by the destruction of Praxus), and the AllSpark was sent away, they needed more soldiers. So, one of every pair was selected for service. The other would remain stashed away, protected from any and all assault- this way the condition couldn't affect their combat effectiveness (or psyche). Sideswipe (WFC) was among these.

When the Ark launched to retrieve the AllSpark and restore Cybertron, the meager Autobot resistance movement headed by Alpha Trion and Ultra Magnus activated the rest, and Sunstreaker was among them. Sunstreaker grew up proud of his big brother, off in the cosmos piloting the Ark, and would have fought relentlessly to defend Iacon from Shockwave's forces if he hadn't been on guard duty in the Hall of Records with his friend Smokescreen.

When Sideswipe died in battle, Sunstreaker was devastated. He took his brother's name and did bodywork to closer resemble him. He became disaffected with the Autobot movement after his brother's death, seeing the war as an endless cycle of violence, and hijacked a shuttle to leave. The shuttle was shot down, and Sideswipe II was left in a Med-Bay comatose by Ultra Magnus. After all, what good is a conscientious objector in his war?

Sideswipe was revived after the war, and became a petty thief to survive.

Also he's a ninja.

 

Shit, this actually works.

 

I like to think that WFC Sideswipe died in the war and that RiD Sideswipe's name was given to him as a homage to WFC Sideswipe.

Now, if you ask me about Grimlock's past I'll have to laugh and pretend he didn't exist on the games.

 

Maybe Grim was an Autobot who destroyed the Autobots plans by accident hence recolouring him an giving him the con insignia

 

sideswipe took out his brain and gave it to grimbee to hold... grimlock went to art college and made green but was told that green is not a creative colour so they made him a decepticon.
