True but Sunstreaker is heavily underused and Hasbro most of the time throws him under the bus and picks Sideswipe over him.

I think that Sides might have been used as an experiment. He talks sometimes like he knows a thing or two about family.

Maybe Sides and Sunny were sold to a illegal lab and Bee met them there and set them free.

 

Arcee, Bumblebee, Bulkhead, Smokescreen, Wheeljack, and Optimus all had backstories that shaped thier characters in the show.
Arcee lost all her partners
Bumblebee lost his voice to Megatron
Bulkhead and Wheeljack were Wreckers
Smokescreen worked in the Hall of Records with Alpha Trion
Optimus was Data Clerk who idolized Megatron

 

Do not forget Ultra Magnus

Commander of the Wreckers
Was a part of the Elite Guard

 

Or Ratchet: Field medic who wished to do more (especially after he saved Bee sans the voicebox)

He ended up helping in restoring all of Cybertron.

It wasn't really a full in depth backstory for these characters though.

 

He used to be names Grimbee.

 

I really doubt RID Sideswipe is the same character as WFC/FOC Sideswipe. RID Sideswipe seems much younger than Bumblebee; I think he's actually referred to as a teenager at some point, where Bumblebee seems to be an adult. Also, in FOC, we see Sideswipe interacting with Jazz without any of the fanboy squee from Can You Dig It?. It's possible the names are just re-used. There are plenty of people named George here on Earth.

I suspect his backstory is going to be basically "rebellious teenage boy", but as a Transformer. Sunstreaker, if he shows up, is probably going to be the quieter twin - less openly rebellious or prone to acting out, but with anger issues. I would like to see Sunstreaker, but that's mostly because I'm interested in what's going on over on Cybertron.

 

Here's my take:

After the war, Sideswipe was incapacitated. They took him into a stasis pod to recover. When he recovered, they tried to salvage any memory he had left. He knew his comrades, but forgot he participated during the war.

 

Funny, to me this is the best "nailed it" version of Sideswipe ever.
"I don't break rules, I bend them, a lot."

This Sideswipe, with this voice actor, could pull off this line perfectly. (I will lose my shit when he says it too. Probably to Strongarm.)

Of the twins, I've always pictured Sideswipe as the one I'd want to hang with.

Sunstreaker is vain, self obsessed, and cold blooded. Frankly, he sounds almost sociopathic. This is acceptable in a war, considering he was one of the few original Autobots who's function was listed as "warrior", but he would have a hard time fitting in with the more child friendly RiD.

If "Sunny" does show up, he should/would be sort of a jerk (older?) brother who Sideswipe idolizes but can't match up to. But Sunny would be tempted to join the Decepticons because he cares little for the humans. Ultimately Sideswipe would have to reach out to Sunny's (humanity?) to keep him from joining the cons. Sunstreaker would not be trusted on Team Bee after this and would self exile, but after this encounter Sunstreaker & Sideswipe's relationship as siblings will be better than it's ever been and both will have healed and grown.

 

I agree with you, this is probably the best Sideswipe yet.

 

I totally agree with you about Sunny's disposition. Sideswipe was always the most likable of the two. Sunny was well known for having a ruthless and cold-hearted demeanor.

I look at Sideswipe and I think of a kid who hasn't had a good start. Maybe he's homeless, maybe he's abandoned, maybe even abused. But I think that he and his brother may not trust authority very much.

Maybe if Sunny does show, he'll try to convince Sideswipe that they would be better of by themselves. But Sides decides that he does't want to abandon his teammates and tells his brother that, for now, earth is his home.

After looking at Sideswipe as seen in WFC, FOC, and Exodus, I do not really feel that there is a huge disparity between him as portrayed there and as portrayed in RID. The only difference, really is that he is more childishly rebellious here. MY idea is that he seemed more mature during those events because he simply wished to stay alive (and that is is sole reason for following Optimus), but that after leaving Cybertron and going out on his own he has become used to not being bossed around by some head hancho and he has developed a resentment of authority that is not a new thing but rather an old thing that has just gotten a lot stronger.

 

Sideswipe is described as being street-smart. I would like some dialogue or hints to him spending time on the streets.
