The scene with Bee and Grim in the boat will forever make me snicker.

Okay, this was my first RID episode, and it's turned out pretty great.

Strongarm and Sideswipe have good chemistry and dynamics. I totally see them getting together, and in a good and well-written way.

Grimlock's a lovable klutz in the line of Bulkhead, he's okay.

The humans are refreshingly nice and supportive.

Steeljaw is a main standout here. Troy Baker voices him so suavely, I haven't heard a voice so charming since David Kaye's BW Megatron. It helps of course that he's got a Magneto-like standpoint: he wants freedom, but he'll take it by any means necessary; it makes him a kind of anti-hero, but not really a villain yet. It remains to be seen how far into villainy he'll actually go. (If the rumors about Megatron returning are true, things will get really hot)

Hammerstrike was interesting, but only because of David Kaye.

On the whole, I'm happy with what I've seen. Couldn't see the pilots, but this was a great beginning for me. Looking forward to more.

Jamie Simone I always thought was solid with Prime's direction but he's really gotten even better here.

If Megatron comes back, I'd rather it be to put these guys in their place and help recapture them. RID is supposed to be a sequel to Prime, so having Megatron return to be the villain again after his apparent reform would be a terrible decision.

Hammerstrike was fun, and assuming he's freed later on it'll be nice to see how he interacts with the other new Decepticons. Probably not well, given all of them are land based (though I suppose Clampdown could join him in the sea). If nothing else I could see him agreeing to work for Steeljaw if Steeljaw offers to help conquer Earth's seas.

Nah, I think he was pretty good in Prime, aside from the monotonous Peter Cullen voicing (which was the worst idea like EVARRR). Here, he just somehow creates the Decepticons' characters through their dialogue. The best example is Steeljaw, in my opinion.

RID has started strong in that it hasn't pretended to be something it's not.

Once I accepted what it is, I've enjoyed it.

The villains appear to be generally throwaway but well designed. Interesting that they are beasts with vehicle modes. Is this a precedent for Transformers?

    Agreed.

Sometimes the term Autobots and Decepticons are used racially, but it's factions. With these other races/species being listed adds a more planetary feel to Cybertron and gives strength to it's lifeforms. I really want to see maybe one of the new Decepticons lament about how Cybertronians such as the autobots see themselves above everyone else due to their more sentient form.

I did get a kick out of the banter between Hammerstrike and Grimlock, about their species.

That and I really want a character based off a Turbofox or a Robotopossum now.

Steeljaw is one of the best Decepticons we've had in recent years, and his voice is sheer perfection.

Love Steeljaw. Underbite was cool primarily because the fact it's the first time we've seen a Sharkticon in a long time. Episode feels like it could've been compressed for some reason.

Grimlock is adorable. I love his enthusiasm in being a team member.

The squabbles between Strongarm and Sideswipe weren't really that funny and I hope they don't continue during the show's run.

Forgot to mention them in my first episode post, but I think Denny is one of the best humans in the franchise to date. Russ is alright, but I think his "pssh I don't care" attitude will get annoying REAL fast.

Hammerstrike was pretty cool, but I don't really like his voice. Sure it's unique, but it didn't really sound David Kaye to me. I'd prefer a more BW Megatron sounding voice, but that's just me.

I definitely like that the 'Cons have a reason to be animal-styled. Identifying them as separate species makes it more believable.

Steeljaw was disappointing. The voice is kind of lame, hope it gets better later on. He reminds me of BW Silverbolt...and not in the good way.

Overall, solid episode with good villain (minus other guy), and some funny character development.

    Can't wait for Thunderhoof's episode!

I wonder who Sideswipe was reminded of when he saw Steeljaw. I'm really liking the dynamics between Sideswipe and Russell, Sides seems to care about him.

Watched this today, liked it much more than the premiere! I think the show worked much better with the monster of the week thing as one of two plots and in a 20-minute timeframe. I liked Steeljaw quite a bit. The Hammerstrike plot may have involved slipping in oil, but that scenario wasn't as slick as Steeljaw. Glad we'll be seeing more of him. Now, I really wish he had a better toy...

I skipped to this episode because I wanted to see Steeljaw. I actually quite like him. His acting when he first confronted Strongarm was entertaining.

But man, the same can not be said for any of the Autobots minus Bumblebee. They sound awful.

Grimlock telling the others to work on their teamwork is good humor.

He is a team player. He just likes leading the team more.

Three episodes in, but this Grimlock is, so far, turning out to be my favorite ever. I hope we get some background on him soon, though, since the cutesy antics can get old real fast if there isn't any real substance to a character.

Not digging the Strongarm/Sideswipe squabbles. I don't care if they're supposed to be "teenagers," it just seems immature how much they're fighting, especially since Strongarm is supposed to be the Cybertronian equivalent of a police officer.

Steeljaw... I dunno about him yet. Still not a fan of his voice, but I do like the smooth aspect of his personality. Overall, I feel like he had a mediocre first appearance, as he didn't really do anything making him seem worthwhile. At least Airachnid posed a real threat and we got some backstory on her in her intro episode.

All the Cons-of-the-week, though? I am SUPER into them. Between Underbite livin' to get swole and Hammerstrike being so pirate cliche it hurts, I can really tell the crew put a lot of love into these guys. None of them seem like they'd make for super great regulars, but as "guest stars" they serve their purpose perfectly.

Underbite was a Chompazoid. Hammerstrike was the Sharkticon. :)

I wonder if later on in the series will get an explanation for Steeljaw, and if so I'm curious to see what they'll classify him under.
