I never understood why Ironhide never made it to Transformers Prime, and he was replaced by Bulkhead, no offence Bulky, but Ironhide is more tougher than Bulkhead, and still no show. Why is that? Well after going through google and trying to find out why he never made it, this is what I found; TRANSFORMERS PRIME WIKIA: Originally, Ironhide was to start in Transformers Prime. However, Ironhide's death in Transformers: Dark of The Moon caused the writers to think twice about using him and to avoid confusing children. DOTM came out in 2011, TF Prime came out in 2010. I am pretty sure they started productions way before 2010 as it came out in January of 2010 so I say sometime in 2009 or even late 2008. That is 2-3 years before DOTM and at the time ROTF was still fresh. Still don't understand it
I recall for the 2007 film, TFA had been marketed in Japan as having all five Autobots from the film, except for Ironhide who was renamed Bulkhead. It sounds like this was a continuation of that little error, except in Western marketing.
as DOTM would be in pre-production in 2009, around the time they were still working on TFP, hasbro would still know what was going to happen with Ironhide, they know who's gonna die. even thought TFP aired in 2010, DOTM was set for the following year and TFP would still air after DOTM. therefore they would still have a living Ironhide after the release of DOTM. but what makes no sense if they dont want a dead character appear in the show because they fear kids would be confused, why have Megatron, Starscream and Soundwave? who all died in DOTM though Megatron was later revealed to be alive in AOE, but still
The funny thing is they killed the Animated show and then had Bulkhead in Prime directly after it. Would children not be more confused jumping from one cartoon to another? It's just nonsense the creative team used to use the terrible character of bulkhead.
I recall reading once that while writing Ironhide he slowly became more goofy until they decided he'd work better as Bulkhead.
that was their non-spoilery excuse. as that statement was revealed before DOTM came, of course they would use an excuse for avoid spoilers for DOTM
DOTM was in production in 2009? At the time ROTF just came out on theatres and Michael Bay said it himself that he might not do a 3rd Transformers movie, so how DOTM be in pre-production when the director wasn't sure if he would be back. Unless I am missing something
I remember reading that when they where trying to write Ironhide, he came off too soft to be a traditional Ironhide so they were like fuck it we'll do Bulkhead. and honestly I think it really shows.
^ And I honestly couldn't see Ironhide putting up with a Miko-like character as his partner lol Dunno quite what the real reason was, and we probably never will. :/ On a related note, I think both the fandom and Hasbro tend to underestimate the abilities of kids to figure stuff out, though.
Ironhide didn't get any cartoon appearance in a while. Last time it was in TF Animated. One can hope and wish we get more than a RiD Ironhide toy but an appearance too.
That would have made for a lot of comedy. Plus he'd probably tell Miko off on a consistent basis and the fandom would love him for that. I hope he'll appear in RID too. He truly deserves another cartoon appearance.
Doesn't mean it was their only reason for replacing him with Bulkhead. It was at least a better reason than thinking kids won't be able to tell the difference between a living Ironhide and a dead Ironhide. Kids are smarter than Hasbro thinks.
it started pre-production/development in October 2009. the film started filming in 2010, that means DOTM had to have entered development in 2009 or sometime before that. plus sometimes a movie can have some pre-production/development work even without a director. like Marvel have plans for a Black Widow movie someday and despite its not even close to being made, they have started pre-production/development work time ago and already have a script, even Captain Marvel is coming in 2018 and it already had some pre-production/development work done last year and theres no director yet. heck even the first tf film entered development/Pre-Production without a director. even Age of Extinction started development/pre-production before Bay signed on, theres some concept art for AOE made in 2011 despite the fact bay didnt signed to direct till 2012
would't it be hilarious if ironhide appeared in rid......in an homage to energon ironhide? the fan rage would be glorious!
no scrap my brother is very young and can tell the difference between all the movies optimus prims and name them off of what movie they are from Hasbro is definatly under estimated children!!!!!! Im supprisd he even knows the plot lines!!!
