I'm fairly excited, to be honest. I liked Prime, but it tried too hard to be "serious." Sure, there were funny moments from Smokescreen, Knock Out and Starscream (ESPECIALLY Starscream), but overall the mood was just... Not fun. TFA and Beast Wars could be really dark, but they never took themselves too seriously. Everyone in Beast Wars (even Dinobot) had funny moments every now and then - hell, Megs had a friggin' rubber ducky and it didn't diminish his villainy at all. TFA and BW knew when to be serious (Thrill of the Hunt and Code of Hero) and when to be funny.

I think that switch broke a loooooong time ago.

So, why should war be presented in a humorous context? I think that's a little bit insulting to those who have served in wars. Wars are dark. Animated was too humorous and presented war as a comedy.

Because we're talking about a cartoon with the target demographic of boys aged 8-14!

yes, I know, the target audience must come first, but is the message Hasbro's sending a good one?

The message that giant shapeshifting robots can have fun while they fight?

If you want to show your kids that war is hell, turn on the news or the history channel.

I leave that up to the parents to decide what their children can understand and handle, as they know their children better than we do.

Edit: And thats another reason RescueBots was such a good idea. If a parent really is sensitive about what their little tyke watches, there's a TF show concentrating on civilians instead of the war.

I'm yet to see any proof that anything in Transformers Prime was cut short for Beast Hunters. All the fans keep saying that but it seems to just be speculation. In fact, I'm pretty certain there was an interview, either just before or during season three, in which a writer stated nothing was cut short in order for Beast Hunters to happen.

I'll give it a shot, but my initial opinion is I won't care for it. Would rather see the Decepticons have a team with a leader than the monster a day concept. Animation seems a little off, not fluid with the backgrounds that they move in. Kind of hard to explain.. Not liking the Sideswipe hipster look. Cyborg voicing Grimlock, because its Cyborg's voice in Grimlock. Theres no variation to it, and we've been hearing the same voice on and off again for the last decade, as Cyborg. Would rather have my Grimlock brutish, doesnt have to be dumb. RID being the name of the show, but rolling down the street as a big ass green t-rex catches no ones attention. In the preview Bumblebee makes a point to say how they should stay in disguise and then they all head into town, Grimlock included. seriously.. I know age demographic, must sell toys of character that was both in the movie and in this cartoon, but wow.. thats almost insulting to a child's intelligence. I like the light hearted approach, but I feel you'll already know the punchline to every joke before they get there. I hope the writing is witty, and has underlined adult humor to an extent. We'll see, if it's worth it i'll DVR it .

MASH was a show about war but they managed to show humor without diminishing the seriousness of war.

I think that's a problem with all shows aimed at kids that involves war, not just Transformers. Plus, I'm not sure why you singled out Animated. Beast Wars made the actual war aspect far more comedic than Animated.

The thing is- we really don't know yet exactly how lighthearted the show will be. It could be like trying to judge TFA based only off a clip of Professor Princess.

First off, this show does not look like a war. Looks more like criminal roundup or something. Neither was Animated a war for the most part. The war had ended already. And when a new revolt broke out in Animated season 3, it wasn't a comedy.

Also, ANYTHING can be presented in a humorous light.

The only thing at this point that I can't stand about this is the animation. I don't know, I guess they're doing something Tron or whatever did but I don't like it. It looks like them trying to make the models rendered in 2D but completely lacking outlines, making it look weird. I could have appreciated a 2D art style like Studio Mir would do but this is just not that interesting. Especially because it's just the character models. Everything else looks painted. Just the models are rendered in this weird cell shaded way but no outlines.

The story, from what I can tell, is nothing new. They have your generic cast of whatevers who will be predictable a lot. It's all a big bag of whatever. I don't want to write the show off yet because I know better than to judge a whole show based on promotional material but nothing I've seen yet has me hopeful. The continuity tidbits from Prime will probably stop being interesting by episode 6 or something. I'll try to give it a chance to hook me and see where that takes me.

Not to mention Animated also did that change in Sentinel's character. I don't mean it was random, but he went from just the stuck up character, to someone abusing his position to make things as he sees fit

only read first page and page 14 but here we go.

rescue bots have sold better in my town then aoe prime and generations, though that makes no sense to me it seems the kids love it and cant get enough in the space of 3 casses of deluxes in one store they sold 14 of those rescue bot cases, though it might be a odity but those are some serous numbers

as for the show it is far to soon to see how it will go.
as for the art style i have seen many shows like this part of being a perant you cringe and smile.

as for the toys unless we see the other 12 primes im not buying one bloody toy

As I said, I'll have to hunt down the exact commentary that hinted at things being cut short in the second season, and the art of Prime reveals a few art pieces and concepts that were later scrapped or changed (perhaps not due to Beast Hunters but for other reasons).

As for that particular interview, I wouldn't be surprised if they did state that and they did mean it- I like to think that half of the people working on Prime at some point or another had no -freakin- idea exactly what was going on half the time and some serious miscommunication was going on behind the scenes. Even the commentary I mentioned (I want to say it was the dvd that had the first four episodes of BH on it) could have been misinformation from one of the guys behind the scenes and whoever said that could have been completely wrong entirely.

It was a mess behind the scenes, to say the least, and it kind of reflected in the show. I don't think anyone knew what was going on 100% of the time, and I think that can be said about a lot of shows, not just Prime.

Either way, no, I don't have 100% definitive proof, but I definitely think Beast Hunters wasn't planned from the get go of the series. Especially with their execution of bringing them in.

The 'speculation" came from two interviews where it was mentioned that the BH line was dropped on them last minute, and the other claimed season 2 and the original season 3 story arcs were squashed together to make room for the new BH season 3.

There was also a DVD commentary that mentioned ideas that were dropped. So, yes, fans have a reason to say these things. It's not them just pulling shit out of their buns.

Edit: I don't believe either of those interviews or the commentary ever had their own threads on this board, nor do I know which writer was speaking, so not sure how to locate them at this point. A Google search only showed articles with Jeffry Combs talking about season 3 being cut short. I remember a member was kind enough to do a Q&A for the Target exclusive commentary, but it wasn't marked by it's own thread either :/
