His bearing a Con insignia intrigues me.

If it were any other TF show, he'd be dramatic like BW Dinobot. However, RID seems to show him as a big lug who's only wearing the logo because he doesn't really know what it truly entails. So that's a nice direction for him, I hope it leads to a great payoff.

Maybe it'll involve Shockwave's experiments and some kind of hidden "switch' reprogramming thing

He seems to have amnesia. If he really is meant to be the same Grimlock as the Aligned Grimlock, something may very well have happened that wiped his memories.

Likely, But yeah regarding some contradictions, like Grimlock starting as a Con in the show despite being established as a bot, i read that despite the idea is that while the shows are meant to be part of the aligned verse alongside WFC/FOC/Dark Spark/Exodus and so on, the show crews from any show are allowed to retcon stuff out as they please if it serves the storyline

There's definitely something more to his memory loss than we currently know. It'll be interesting to see how in-depth they get with his backstory.

This is probably one of the best attributes this show has so far.

Or maybe the whole Aligned continuity was a bad idea?

Yeah, truthfully, if it didn't happen or mentioned in the prior cartoon (which are usually deemed the "core" of any cannon), there really isn't an obligation on the show's creator's parts to reflect what happened in secondary sources like games, novels, comics or toy bios.

As a sequel to Prime, all they had to address was:
    Bumblebee can now talk
    Optimus Prime is "dead"
Megatron is "retired" (at least at start)
    Cybertron is restored

Though, it isn't as if prior sequel series didn't play fast and loose with continuity anyway.

At this stage, I think the entire "Aligned Continuity" deal has been abandoned by Hasbro. I think now that the line as been divided into market segments (preschoolers, kids, older kids/collectors), Hasbro is just letting each part do what it needs to do.
As is, the collector segment has become closely tied with IDW's Transformers comics, which aren't even a part of "Aligned" to begin with.

Interesting take on Grimlock i find it interesting he doesn't talk like usual either. I think he will probably be this shows Bulkhead. The decepticon insignia interests me and his past.

Be kinda cool if they worked in Mairghread and Mike Johnson's idea from the comics and had him develop stunted speech when he becomes angry

Hmm, the whole concoction seems to be a shitty mind fuck that's hard to get round at first, as to why Hasbro would even bother....

The G1 continuity is much easier to follow.... Why?

Why are people still under the impression that the Aligned Continuity is a hard set universe? It isn't. It's simply a bible to be used to give the shows and games a shared general history. It was just explained badly at first.

Bah, he's Goryu with the wrong name until the series can provide a reason for him not to be.

...from what we've seen he's nothing like Goryu. Apart from being green. Different design, robot mode full on Grimlock, personality nothing like Goryu...me thinks this is flawed reasoning.

It could be that RID Grimlock is like Jason Bourne. He might not be who he thinks he is.
