Oh man I had blanked that line from my memory.

It's second only to the gratuitous and unnatural use of "paramount."

    Relic hunting... Repetitive hunting.

Episode starts with Decepticons 'trying' to get it.

    Autobots come and halt everything.

    Autobots get relic.

    Decepticons leave.

    *new episode*

    Autobots use new relic.

    Decepticons manage to take it........

    relic gets destroyed.

Just because the voice acting was great dose not mean the dialog was any good.

Looking back it feels like the show didn't know what to do after the Unicron plot. Relic hunting really ramped up after the first season finale, and it basically took place of any sort of plot in the show from there on out.

It brought me back to G1 when it first happened even though people act like it didn't.

Aside from fighting and taking over things looking for lost technology makes sense since they had stuff scattered all over the place during the wars.

Relic hunting is fine, but it typically felt completely superfluous in Prime. There really wasn't a goal with them and all too often the relics just got stuffed in a closet and where forgotten. Compare to say, Jackie Chan Adventures were you knew what the purpose of the relics were and why everybody wanted them, how many there were and thus could tell how the balance of power between the two sides were, and a sense of mystery and discovery so you actually look forward to the next talisman; not to mention the characters actually used them. Prime never had any of that, rather it was always "oh there's yet another thing to get."

EDIT: Thinking on it... Jackie Chan had 12 Talismans based on the Chinese Zodiac. Something that Prime could've done was have 13 relics based on the Primes (since those actually exist in the "Aligned" universe), maybe tie it into the eventual fight against Unicron and the whole "what it means to be a Prime" thing.

Will people ever run out of ideas for things this show could have done that actually would have been interesting and given some amount of payoff?

'Fraid not. TFPrime is like that straight-A high schooler that you think is going places, but he drops out during his senior year and sponges off his parents.

And a Whetus song for a tital.
but seriosly that show did the relic hunting right heck the relics could have done nothing but power up some thing like Tryptocon and it would have lead some where.

The biggest issue with the relic hunt, and much of Prime, is the build up doesn't go anywhere.

Season 2 is my favorite of Transformers Prime, for even though it was a relic hunt, it all came together for the final run of episodes and was a season long running arc. Not like season 1 which was very episodic.

What was the G1 relic hunting? I remember a few episodes here and there where there was a thing both sides were after, but not where it was the main theme over the course of many episodes. (I haven't watched them all in a row in a while, so I could be just forgetting!).

I think it was more of the idea that G1 was your standard "plot of the week" format. Megatron gets an idea, Decepticons go out and get the superweapon/stuff needed to construct/power the superweapon, etc., Autobots show up, they fight over it, superweapon is destroyed/neutralized, repeat next episode with new superweapon or plot device.

Needless to say, that's not something a show promoting ongoing plotlines should be actually doing much like Prime :lol

Not even that, the relics were on average more useless than RID's O-parts. Those got forgotten in a closet, too, but only after they had been all collected to locate Fort Max and had served their only purpose of existing.

I actually sort of agree (I prefered Season 3) but yeah one thing Season 2 did well was actually have an actual goal (regardless of it's execution) it's better than just dicking around in Season 1 and suddenly be like Oh shit it's Unicron.

Maybe if Unicron was the main focus from the start perhaps, but otherwise eh, their were many great standalone episodes but too me it was the weakest season.
