It's still weird that Ted McGinley (Jefferson Darcy from Married With Children), of all people, would be involved with TF: RID.   Then again, other Married With Children actors (Katey Sagal aka Peg Bundy voices Turanga Leela from Futurama, and David Faustino aka Bud Bundy voices Mako from Avatar: The Legend of Korra) have also made the leap to animated show voice acting so maybe it shouldn't be so surprising.

A shame that Knock Out (Daran Norris) won't be returning. I would've loved seeing his character on this show butting heads with friends, enemies, and humans alike. But I suppose Sideswipe fills out the role of "arrogant jerk face red Autobot guy" (SS actually being a reformed KO would be very cool and interesting indeed, though I'd still miss Daran Norris' performance as KO). Wonder who the remaining characters will turn out to be.

Mini-Con.... Wheelie? Brains? A Targetmaster of some sort perhaps? The female Bot.... hmmm, Elita-1, Chromia, Moonracer, and Minerva are possibilities. Nautica or Windblade too if they go IDW on us.

 

It wasn't voice acting, but after seeing him in that second made-for-TV Scooby-Doo movie, it doesn't really surprise me much.

I didn't realise that they had said who was voicing Sideswipe till someone mentioned it in the news thread, which got me to read the article that the news had came from. Given that it's not Norris voicing him, I nowlonger believe that there is any real chance of Sideswipe turning out to be a reformed Knock Out. They're keeping Bumblebee's VA, so I'm sure they would have kept Knock Out's. Even if he was getting a new name.

The Minicon is Fixit...

 

Bumblebee, Fixit, Sideswipe, mini-con, Dinobot, Elite Guard Member. Ah, yes. The traditional Five-Man Band.

I don't have much to complain about in regards to the designs, but I'm still under the impression that they're not an accurate representation of the actual aesthetic of the show. Looking at them individually, I'm disconcerted by how I was utterly convinced before I learned better that Sideswipe was actually Knockout; the idea that it's just the latter with the former's name applied to suit the faction-switch is interesting, but I have no predictions for the likelihood of it actually coming to fruition.

Other than that, I can appreciate the unconventional look of Fixit's design and how this series appears to equate to a somewhat more sophisticated upgrade from Animated's look; I had always liked the cartoony appearance, but simultaneously felt that it could always benefit from an aesthetic that wasn't quite so blatantly lazy.

Nothing I can say beyond that which hasn't already been said; name is uncreative and will evidently cause confusion between this show, the one preceding it with the same title, and the comic series (which coincidentally has the same plot point of Bumblebee being obligated to step up to leadership: not so subtle, Hasbro). Hopefully the laziness of the title doesn't show in the writing and execution of the show itself.

Disappointed that it's on Earth, especially after being put under the impression by a promotional image that it would primarily take place on Cybertron. Now, unfortunately, the likelihood of Prime's human characters reappearing (albeit aged) is increased tenfold. I apathetically vanquish the vague hope that I had for a generally human-void series.

Regarding the aforementioned Dinobot, I imagine that it'll likely be Swoop for his implied acquaintanceship with Bumblebee in AOE. At least, I hope this speculation of mine will turn out to be correct; Swoop (or Strafe as he's called in the upcoming movie) was always my favorite Dinobot. The characterization of "bombastic," however, (whereas Swoop was always characterized as a more intelligent, docile Dinobot), may hint at an alternative introduction.

Elite Guardsman could indeed be Smokescreen, but with as much as the creative team is pressing "new cast," it's doubtful.

Despite any protests of mine, I'm still looking forward to it. For most of TFP's duration, I never anticipated Bumblebee being put in such a centric position. I look forward to seeing the results of this change.

Indeed; I do enjoy a non-humanoid aspect here and there. We had it the previous series whenever Airachnid was in her spider-form and it's good to see it again.

Plausible; Prime has taken aspects from the Movies before, prominently in Bee himself and Optimus/Megatron, so Swoop seems a likely option. Be nice to have a flying Autobot at any rate.

Woot! I like their designs so far, I'm excited to see the new cons. I really, really hope that it's not just marketing and there really is a new con team (with a new team leader! Don't bring back Megatron as the bad guy, at least not right away...)

Bee as the new Rodimus, check.

Sideswipe as the young hotshot rebel, check. I still can't get over his Saiyan hairstyle (it just looks), but it's to be hoped he will have a reasonably good plot development arc to maturity.

Fixit looks interesting. He may be the hyperactive Mini-Con.

The others sound great. I hope the Dinobot is Sky-Lynx, it would fit perfectly. And I do hope some of the cast from TFP make an appearance, otherwise why call it a sequel?

Out of all this, what interests me most is the casting of Ted McGinley (THE LOVE BOAT) in the show. I wonder what sort of role he'll have; a comedic one or one with dramatic tones?

In any case, it's a new show and it should be as fun to watch as all the other shows were (to some extent).

 

I heard that Khary Payton had recently said a month ago that he was working with Peter Cullen?

Is it possible that he might be voicing in RID? Then again it could be Rescue Bots or AOE.

 

I really hope the Elite Guard guy is Scattorshot or Wing Saber...

And the fembot is Override...

I like the Diversity within the team, sdure you got the Common Sports Car Autobots, but a Mini-con and a Dinobot, that sounds fun.

As for the Decepticons I hope we also get a diverse team too, But for some reason I have a hunch it's the Star Seekers.

But I hope each Toy includes a Minicon; and Voyager wise we need a Dinobot, a new Predicon, and a Insecticon in this line

 

I really hope the Dinobot turns out to be Sludge, he needs to be brought back in a better capacity. I wonder who the Decepticons would be, maybe introduce triple changers like Astrotrain.

Hopefully Magnus will come back and not get a shafting like he did in Prime's third season. (Seriously, he should have shot Megatron in the kneecaps or SOMETHING after that "You're no Optimus Prime" line. Just bloody ANYTHING.)

And I'd like to see occasional cameos from other cast members like Arcee and maybe a Decepticon or two. But with Shockwave still running around, it makes me wonder if he'll make Predacons that are more like the ones from the G1 cartoon.

Animated was a lighthearted show until it's third season, but still dealt with stuff heavier than Prime did even in it's first season.

 

I like how they're using what I think of as the Voltron style cast:

Hero -Bumblebee
Hot Head - Sideswipe
Small smart guy - Fixit
Big strong guy - probably Dinobot
Girl - probably Cadet

-ZacWilliam, I agree it'd be great if they broke tradition and made the Dinbot the girl. I'd love it but I'd also love the Dinobot to be not-Grimlock and I think neither of those things is really very likely...

We need another big-mama female TF in the franchise again to get away from the motorcycles and spiders.
