Every time I see this thread title on the top page, it makes me think of if there was a poll for "Best Star Wars Movie between the top 2," and then you enter the thread and the choices are Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith, and you think WTF?!! Really...?

Beast Wars being Empire Strikes Back, by the way.

I have to disagree here. I watched BW several times and many of the characters have expressive faces. Especially some in the background. Like, for example, Megatron's look of delight when he is inside the Metal Hunter and examines it, Megatron's smirks and smiles that borderline between his humor yet also his cunning personality, Cheetor's scoff and look away when Optimus has Rattrap lead them in Chain of Command, Optimus's shock and horror when he thinks Cheetor is gone in Feral Scream, Dinobot's looking down when he hears what happened to Airazor and Tigratron. Many of the characters blink their optics, optics rising. Depending on the character, some had very subtle expressions.

That's true. I went back and watched a bit on youtube and my memory seems to have remembered the facial animation being more bland. While I still think TFP is leagues better, BW isn't quite as bad as I originally made it out to be. It was a bit unfair of me to say they had little expression. (Especially considering we have Energon and Cybertron.) :p

Personally, I'd say the top two TF series were Animated and Beast Wars. Prime had it's moments, but it could have been so much more. I often got the impression that the writers weren't sure where they wanted the story to go.

It also didn't help that for a series that was once claimed to show us parts of the TF universe that we'd never seen before, we spent a lot of time in the Nevada desert.

Saying that I did start to like TF: Prime, eventually. It was different and did lead the way for the TF-multiverse to move beyond the seemingly endless war between Optimus Prime and Megatron.

I definitely agree, the animation in Prime is great. I sometimes wonder how people like this show, and I always assume it's two things: The detailed animation, and the voice acting. Both combine to really bring some rather bland characters to life.

I also agree with this. While Beast Wars' animation isn't as smooth, or as well rendered as Prime's, the level of detail in things like characters' expressions is almost, if not as good as Prime's.

I can definitely understand this viewpoint. I, myself, find Prime to be a decent show to watch an episode of, at random, when bored, due to how visually pleasing it can be. Meanwhile Beast Wars' dated animation means you have to become invested in the story and characters to enjoy it. Something that's problematic due it's poor start.

Although I can't say I understand wanting to live in Jasper Nevada. It's often shown as having deserted streets, and we are shown next to nothing of the city. As far as I recall, we see get to see the outside of where Jack works, the Darby's garage, 3 classrooms, 1 room in a museum once, and Raff's bedroom once. Once the city's destroyed at the beginning of season 3, it's never mentioned again.

The city was a ghost town for a lot of the show.

Beast Wars is definitely the franchises Empire Strikes Back.

It's a sequel (to G1) that exceeds the original.
