So...my appreciation post...for both Peter Cullen and Optimus Prime.

Peter Cullen is doing an excellent job, imho, with Optimus in TFP....Optimus isn't a school boy, he's sentient but NOT human, and with the Matrix inside him, guiding him, he's not going to 'sound' uncertain or play reindeer games. He's 10000% serious, all day, every day..all the time. Period. I very much like this version of him. He's a leader, looking out for his bots and humanity. Quite a challenge and one that isn't taken lightly.
His character has had eons of war experiences to leave him scarred and weary, but NOT beaten, he's still fighting..now on Earth, for humanity as well as preventing the Cons from destroying yet another world. To still be fighting the same enemies..and a few new ones too... after all this time takes a 'truck load' of fortitude and endurance....and he's still going strong, hopefully for a couple more seasons at the very least.
Optimus and Peter Cullen will be forever "one" in my mind. There can be only one...for me anyway. Awww.

I use to love this Optimus. I just wanna see something quirky or ridiculous about him. Like how Leroy Jenkins Prime has a dismembered face fetish, I think this Prime should have social anxiety.

Other threads like this - about controversial characters - have developed into a debate: Movie Optimus, Arcee, Bumblebee, Starscream, and Airachnid, for example, so I don't see what the problem is with this Optimus's thread going the same route. Opinions about him aren't exactly unanimous.

I know that...but when a thread is titled "XXXX's Appreciation thread" then 'common sense' would dictate that each respondent post their appreciation of that character's best qualities.
Certainly folks can find something about the character they appreciate--even if it's only their vehicle mode or color-- if not, don't post.

Heaven knows, there's been enough character discrimination and hating in this forum to last a lifetime.

It would be a pleasure to see an appreciation thread not get locked because people want to turn it into another bitch fest, there's been enough of that too.

I'm just gonna step around the argument and appreciate Prime Prime.

Transformers Prime Optimus Prime is boring but realistic. Movie Optimus managed to be realistic and show more emotion but completely changed Optimus' character. Prime Prime is a more realistic take on the Optimus Prime that thinks all life is precious. Even the evil ones. Someone with those ideals would have a hard time in a war where you have to kill people. The burdens of leadership makes things far worse. So while I don't like what they're doing with Optimus in this show, I can respect it. And I'm looking forwards to seeing where his development goes.

I've seen many threads derail and get locked like you said. But so far nothing indicates this pretty level-headed discussion on Optimus is turning into a rage thread like many a thread have done. The people posting less than positive opinions on Optimus, myself included, have done nothing worse than discuss a character. Yes it's an Appreciation Thread, but appreciation doesn't have to be professing undying love for Optimus like you've done. If Optimus wasn't in my opinion bland and forced to be perfect, there wouldn't be a discussion in this forum. Where's the fun in that? Those of us not in love with TFP Optimus no doubt appreciate the source for logical discussion, which is all I have seen in this thread. No one right now is flaming or bashing each other.

So slow your roll. We don't have to love Optimus to post here.

Still, this Optimus has to be my most favourite with Movie Optimus and TFC Optimus falling into close second and third. I will never understand the negativity he's been getting lately. I think he's unique because he usually keeps his emotions in check for a good reason. Definitely something I like!

True, no one has to 'love' Prime to post, but you asked where's the fun??? I asked that question a long time ago when it came to the continual flaming and trolling in the TFP forum et al. My point is, wouldn't it be great to enjoy one thread (or gasp, at least some of them) without folks starting the same old 'troll and roll' for their posts?? I will say it's calmed down some and that's nice to see.

I don't expect everybody to love certain bots, heck I don't love them all either---nor do I run them down continually in every other post--but the trash talk has gotten very old and has a certain immaturity that is embarrassing for the TFP fandom at large. What's the old saying?: They're like a dog with a bone? It'd be nice if some would just drop the bone--it's old and nasty.
I think it would appreciated if folks just give it a rest, the series and the characters are what they are....and by the time they air, it's said and done and the TFP staff have moved on to next season's stories, bots, etc., so imho, should we. Say it once and move on, is just how I roll.

Oh well, this is way off topic...and I'd rather see some appreciation posts instead.

I like this version of Optimus. Like others have said, he shouldn't be happy. He's got four, sometimes five, Autobots to help him against the Decepticons in a war he's been fighting for millenia.

That being said, I think a happy Optimus Prime is always good for an appreciation thread, no?
