really? I couldn't even tell it was dwayne johnson. I had to IMDB it after watching it, re-watch it, and then just blindly go along with it because it still didn't sound particularly like he was going to cook anything.

It seemed like a combination of underestimating the situation and being too stubborn to fall back when he should have. He called for back up once he realized how serious it was but he should have swapped to alt mode and taken off once it was obvious he couldnt win, but pride was his fatal flaw and it got him killed.

Everyone knows Cliffjumper was just too badass is all. if that energon didn't explode from laser fire, he would be on top, like a boss

also, because he was The Rock

Cliff never backs up from a fight, no matter the odds. Makes him a cool character, but kinda lead to his downfall

I just wish he didn't die within the FIRST FIVE MINUTES.

I mean, could have had him last into the second episode of the Arc.

Really would have like to see him with the whole team before he died.

They probably couldnt afford that. They blew there entire voice acting budget for the character within 5 minutes on Dwayne Johnson. Maybe if they went for a less expensive VA, the character would have lived longer.

Or fuck, at least once with Arcee before he's after her braaaaaains.

I believe it was in the commentary on the Season 1 DVDs where it was said, but they writers originally wanted a B or C list G1 character (Smokescreen was used as an example), who would be killed by Megatron in the season finale.

This was changed of course, Megatron to Starscream, last episode to first episode, and Smokescreen to Cliffjumper.

The reason an expensive VA was used was probably because Cliffjumper was already set to die, not the other way around
