I've been thinking. Obviously in One Shall Fall, Optimus resolved to kill Megatron after a final epic battle. In season two he's been getting more and more ruthless (as Megatron notes); going ahead and confronting Megs in Operation Bumblebee; clearly struggling to consider ending Megatron's life in Crossfire; trying to use the Spark Extractor in Flying Mind.

This show is supposed to teach you what it means to be a Prime. Optimus has essentially revoked any mercy for Megatron and is slowly growing more and more ruthless. What if, at the end of the multi-parter, after a massive battle, let's say Optimus is finally about to kill Megatron, roaring, "Today this ENDS, I swear you will NOT leave here alive!" or something far more dramatic or angsty than "One shall stand" or "Today you answer for your crimes". But just as he strikes the killing blow to Megs, he doesn't kill Megatron. Megs isn't holding the sword like in One Shall Fall. Someone else is.

Then, like a Predator coming out of cloak mode, the ancient Thirteen Primes appear (bar The Fallen) and one of them reveals themselves to be the one holding Optimus back from killing Megatron. They basically warp everyone present (any Autobots, Decepticons, humans, Optimus, Megs) to some fancy schmancy courtroom place. The Primes then chew out Optimus for "falling to darkness" and forgetting that freedom is the right of all sentient beings. Normally killing a monster like Megatron would be fine, but Optimus has gotten so cold over the season, he enjoys it. And the decisions he's made in the season finale multi-parter often placed his team in danger. So the Primes strip Optimus of his Prime status, though he retains his memories, he does not possess the power of the Primes he is renowned for. He is now just Optimus, a fallen Prime. Megatron is imprisoned by the Thirteen and is turned over to the Autobots, but the Autobots' leader is now a disgraced shell of his former self.

Seeing opportunity, The Fallen lurks in the shadows somewhere, planning to take advantage of Optimus' fall from power. The season ends.

Thus in season three, what could be a final season, Optimus must prove himself worthy of being a Prime after losing his way, while being a very ineffective leader, since he is so shaken by losing his Prime status. He tries to learn from Jack and his team over the season. However, The Fallen begins to try to manipulate Prime's Spark to becoming his new servant. He also possesses Optimus to go to the imprisoned Megatron for leadership advice in secret, to somehow help his ultimate agenda: reviving Unicron. The Thirteen, having sympathy for the Autobots, essentially randomly grab a different soldier every now and then to help out to make up for the loss of Optimus's Prime abilities (allowing for some recurring characters.

Just been floating around in my head for a while.

I like this idea. It looks like it has been thought out well. It would also give Optimus some type of personality.

My God. This is the greatest fan fic idea i have ever heard of. This is just perfect in everyway, ties everything together with what should have happened based on what the writers and prodcuers said would happen and just be the best story yet in Transformers.

That would be the most epic story in the show if not the franchise period...

That is one of the better ideas that I have ever seen so far. It sucks that we will not get a Season 2 finale as good as the ideas in this forum.
