The Decepticons and MECH both do things without consideration of who they may be hurting. If MECH was peaceful, than being part of MECH could be an excuse. If the Vehicons were striving for world peace, than defending the Vehicons could be an excuse. But neither is the case, and thereby neither is an excuse for Starscreams complicity in their activities.
Who the audience considers 'good' or 'evil' doesn't really matter. Just because the Autobots are the protagonists doesn't mean everything they do can be justified. MECH might be viewing themselves as heroes and Starscream probably sees himself as a noble guy and a martyr.

The deal with 'Bots and Starscream is based on mutual arrangements. They don't kill him on sight, and they help him only if Starscream can offer something in return. There is no good and evil here, both side are just looking out for their own benefits, and like Bulkhead showed in Armada, he can as easily turn on Starscream as Scream can on the 'Bots.

Vehicon: Lord Starscream, humans have seen us, what should we do?
Starscream: Terminate them.

Autobots: Optimus, humans have seen us, what should we do?
Optimus: Defend them at all costs!

------------------------------

Optimus: Freedom is the right of every sentient being.

Megatron: I will conquer this planet and everyone on it!

------------------------------

Do you really think you have any argument in trying to say good vs. evil is in the eye of the beholder? Are you joking? In the real world there are often shades of gray. This isnt the real world. The Decepticons are your stereo typical mustache twirling, Evil for the sake of evil bad guys. There is no gray.

I guess I didn't show my point clearly enough. I wanted to say that in this particular discussion we are having here, where we talk about the current relationship between Starscream and the 'Bots there is no point it saying that somebody is good or evil by our standards. Whether there are shades of gray in TFP is a completely different story and that's not what I'm talking about here.

Back to where our discussion started, I just pointed out that "'Bots are no better when it comes to their 'camaraderie' than Starscream". And saying that Starscream is not innocent is beside the point, because their temporary alliances are not about having good company, but mutual benefits.
Although to be honest the last time Starscream met with an Autobot, he saved Arcees life, and the next time he got executed because Bulkhead didn't want to follow the rules of their previously-established 'alliance'.

I see you point here, but to be honest if somebody wanted to go into a full discussion about ethics, utilitarianism, deontology, universe and shit your examples might turn out to not be the strongest.

You had stated it clearly enough. If you look backwards the debate i just had with Depthwave stemmed from this response, which was much more on target with this thread discussion;

However when he says (to paraphrase) "Neiner Neiner i'm not going to help you", this kind of throws that argument for keeping him alive out the window.
Basically i dont consider there to be any alliance between Starscream and the Autobots. But rather the Autobots only allow him to live because he might actually help them to prevent further evil.

They're still enemies until otherwise explicitly stated. Remember, Starscream only asked for help when he had something good to give and was bleeding to death.

He also has some sort of twisted honor (kept Arcee alive). But just because an enemy solider has honor still doesn't make him an ally.
Transformer Prime Drones ftw.

Your whole argument makes it sound like being evil is necessary.
Then why did Prime try to kill helpless megatron? "Was it nesessary, to be "evil"?
You confuse "logic" and "evil".
Actually, "evil" and "good" are not definitions, with which a sentient being should measure the world. Those statement are just sophisticated, farfetched myths, using by not very smart adults to teach and control their children, when those are small.
