The lack of realism. Or "Prime vs. This much better thing"

Picking up from a conversation I had earlier, I realise one of the big problems with this show is the general lack of real, down-to-Earth characters and interactions. The conversations are always so... designed. So unconvincing. It's unrealistic. And no, smart guy, (yeah you, dude about to type "BUT THEY'RE SPACE ROBOTS IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE REALISTIC") I don't mean realistic senarios, I mean realistic characters. Characters who don't seem like obviously written characters in a TV show. It's always "remember that time I did that super awesome thing?" Or "remember that space battle and space robot battle space battle robot?" or "Robot terms joke!" To compare to the current MTMTE comic, Prime feels completely un-genuine. So force, so planned. The characters don't discuss or have conversations, they take turns saying canned "epic" or "mature" lines with a few awkward Transformers references here and there and a movie quote.

Example, in IDW's most recent issue of MTMTE Swerve talks about pranking the paranoid Red Alert by moving the furniture of his room while he's asleep and pretending nothing's happened. Prime has nothing on that hilarity, and said hilarity wasn't even seen, merely described, still to great comedic effect. Prime can't, because none of the characters have personalities that can interact like that. The Prime Autobots would never prank eachother because they have no flaws to take advantage of for comedic effect, except maybe Ratchet, but he has no one to work off. these xamples existed in Aniamted, too, a show that came out years ago. And Beast Wars before it. Hell, even Robots in Disguise had this element with the car brothers, secifically the energetic and aloof Sideburn and the stuffed-shirt Prowl.

Now before you say anything, no, I don't just mean humour. I mean interactions in general. With very few exceptions there's no characters who make for interesting, non-confrontational exchanges, or even confrontational exchanges that aren't about inhuman problems. Because they can't, because they're all so basic. There's no human problems. No I don't mean human physically, I mean there's nothing we can relate to. It's all about concepts and ideals exclusive to the made-up nature of the characters. Every story, even about aliens, needs a human problem to work. Something we can observe and understand. Something that happens to us, so that we can latch on to it and understand the character's pain/laughter/sadness. The best example of this is Cliffjumper's death. A character who appeared for less than five minutes, someone we know nothing about and who interacted with none of his team on-screen, and yet we are expected to feel bad for him and understand the other character's pain. No. That does not work.

Bottom line: Prime isn't real. It has no heart. It cannot have fun, it cannot be sad. And that's terrible when two outdated cartoons and a comic book are doing way better. BTW, yes one dude who remembers me, I do feel a bit better now.

You be careful. Having a negative opinion is frowned upon in these parts!

But anyway, I agree! (Obviously)

So the bottm line of this thrrad is that Prime is one of the worst shows since Energon and it has zero to no heart and soul whatsoever?

Thank you for that little rant. Now all is left to do is to see the major arguments to aros here.

I disagree with everything you say but it's your opinon after al. I just don't like it when you try to make your rants and thoughts on Prime into a fact.

Your right we need more social interaction with the charecters.

So much constant fights and not enough down time to cool the breeze and shoot the shit.

No, seriously.

MTME is objectively better than Prime. It is a fact. Have you read MTME? It's a goddamn masterpiece; it's what a great Transformers series is and should be.
