I got my Takara prowl shipped for $64. It is stupid that TRU is going to try to sell it for more than importing a Japanese one. $70 + 10% tax? No thank you. I thought this thing was going to be like $45. This sucks. They probably aren't going to sell very many. Most collectors have one or will import the takara version when they see the price difference and not many parents are going to just randomly chose the smallish $70 transformer for their kids. I hope this doesn't screw up future US MP releases.......

Soundwave went like crazy last year, I couldn't figure it out either. The TT version had been out for months, and it was still a hot item. There might be that many people doing the same this year.

Yeah I'll never understand that. There wasn't a darn thing wrong with the Takara paintjob. Does Hasbro have a deal with McDonalds or something?

Hmm, well i will join the chorus of "hasbro MP Prowl is overpriced!" voices here. The great price on MP Soundwave last year made him a must buy. The same was true with Hasbro MP-10 the year before. But to be comparable with the whole trend of hasbro mp's bein cheaper than the takara counterparts, Mp Prowl would have needed to cost somewhere around $40-50. The $70 price tag will likely keep some folks away. I already have the takara version of mp prowl and i may skip this release now.

70 for prowl oh crap. I was waiting for sideswipe but if he is the same price I will just go to bbts for takara's version because it the same price. I purchased takara's prowl off of hlj for 53 dollars in October. Tru you are crazy.

That was because the Hasbro version was a much better deal than the TT version. Hasbro Soundwave came with all 5 cassettes for about the price of the TT version that only included Buzzsaw.

Good to know, thanks! :D  :thumb
All the hate and name-slingin'... just makes me like Sunstorm more! :D  I'd probably pose him with a carton of fries, too! ;)
Good call. If Prowl tanks at retail, Hasblo or TRU will assume collectors don't want MP cars! :lol  But then again, it's not like the seekers do all that well, and those are sold year after year. :rolleyes2  I don't really know what Hasbro/TRU use to decide which MP to carry/sell, but they're clearly looking at some amazing statistics outside of our personal interest in these products. Maybe if we're dealing with phantom dollars, these prices and decisions are waaaay more profitable? :D

Well, those are clearly rip off prices even more than usual. Sad.

Guess this means everyone might as well buy TakaraTomy - you get it earlier and for the same price or cheaper. Plus you support a company that respects you.

    Already own prowl.

As for Shitstorm, it looks like a Drunk Hasbro employee got into the crayola paints again.

    >$70 Prowl

Well fuck you too, Scalpers R Us. I'll just get one when Takara reissues it again for $5 less. Feel free to shove your limited stock up Geoffrey's giraffe ass.

Agreed x 2. If last year's EE raffle pattern holds true, they'll be next to impossible to get at SDCC anyway - - better to try TRU online / in store afterwards if anyone is seeking either item. To echo others so far, I also agree that Prowl price point is a deterrent, just wow. Saw the Takara version all over BotCon with rocket launchers included for much less.

    Good luck either way :thumb

This price is a joke. The Masterpiece line is my favorite...this better not start a downward spiral.

This figure is tiny in comparison to other U.S. releases. I paid less for Grimlock, Rodimus, Starscream, and even MP-01 when they first came out, and those figures are much bigger and more detailed. I saw a picture of Prowl recently next to generations Jazz, and they're close to the same size. I paid between $10-15 for Jazz, so shouldn't Prowl realistically be between $20 and $30, at the most? They shrank the size of the Masterpiece line and then raised the price exponentially? What? The details in the line also seem to be waning, as Prowl has a blank license plate, non-rubber tires, non-chrome weapons, etc. Seriously, Google Masterpiece Prowl on image search and you can see him next to Generations Jazz at the top of the page. Prowl's car mode is for sure more detailed, but is there really a $55 difference between the two? Should there be that high of a nostalgia tax? Sure, raise the price A BIT because it's a classic...but $70 for that little figure is honestly insulting. I never thought I would see the day a shipped import is cheaper.

Does Hasbro expect Prowl to be as popular as Prime, Soundwave, or Grimlock? Prowl is awesome for sure, but his popularity is nowhere near the other figures I just mentioned. Where is the common sense?

The KO's are a huge problem as well. There are now three readily available buying options for Prowl: Takara import, KO, and Hasbro. The Hasbro version used to always be MUCH cheaper than Takara, and only a bit more than a KO, making the Hasbro release very popular in the past.

The Masterpiece line...my favorite since G1....can I continue to afford you at these prices?

Even if it included a pair of the Amazon JP exclusive launchers, $50 is the max he should be priced...glad I have two of the Takara release (no launchers since I order from HLJ, but they're not toon accurate anyways). I was hoping to collect Hasbro's relaunched line in full, but I've skipped Grimlock (already own the original Takara and the original Hasbro [MISB]), will be skipping Prowl, and need to see some in-hand photos of Sunstorm, because he looks like crap with the deco in the pictures.

Even aside from launchers, Hasbro could have given just one little incentive to make Prowl worth the price: Ratbat. It'd have been easy to include him, and those who didn't want to spend the money for a Soundblaster just to have the cassette would have been pleased...

Alas, despite this, I fully expect the Hasbro release of MP Ultra Magnus will be $100-$120, and this significantly cheaper than Takara...still not gonna wait, though.
