While we all wait on tenterhooks for the new Masterpiece series releases of Wheeljack and Bumblebee, Takara-Tomy has been releasing some of their existing Masterpiece Transformers in new decos. One of those releases is Masterpiece Lambor G-2 Version, aka Masterpiece Generation 2 Sideswipe.

This toy is one that embodies the spirit of Generation 2 as a whole, and even feels like it stepped out of 90s comics. The toy itself is the legendary "black with red trim" Sideswipe deco, which looks gorgeous and has a fantastic finish. But with this release, Takara-Tomy went the extra mile - they went back to the Generation 2 comic book and gave Sideswipe new accessories based on the comic. The result is a Masterpiece series release who looks as though he jumped off the printed page.

The set also comes with an optional sticker sheet to customize your Generation 2 Sideswipe, and give him either toy accurate markings or just a Generation 2 Autobot symbol. Personally I felt the finish on the toy was too good to sticker up, but the stickers are a great little extra that make the toy for me.

Overall Lambor G-2 Version / Masterpiece Generation 2 Sideswipe is a fantastic release and a great tribute to the whole Generation 2 era from Takara-Tomy. He's well worth taking a look at if you want to diversify your Masterpiece Transformers collection a bit, or if you just love his so typically 90s action hero look.

so tempted to buy both of them and do a partswap for an all black and all red sideswipe but that's not happenin on my budget haha

 

I plan on getting a red alert and swapping the faces. lol

Paranoid Red will look perfect with that face and his sparking antanna

 

We think alike… I'm waiting on a 2nd MP14 and MP12G though, just in case I screw it up.

I wasn't excited for this guy at all, and then I check the gallery. It's so ridiculous and self-aware, I love it. That face makes it.

Can't believe the photographer would take such nice photos but not finish transforming him completely! The windows in his back TUCK IN. From the front, they aren't even visible when done right. See the Red Alert photos above... Shame

 

I do wonder why MP12G has a head that is painted red while MP14 has a head that is moulded red… it's not like they weren't already changing all the other black plastic on MP12 to red. Weird.

 

I opened up mine last night. He's really impressive in person. I think I like him more then the regular MP Sideswipe.

 

by far the best color variation for the countach! i can't get over how ugly that face is, though.

 

Well to be fair, sometimes you're just so into the photography aspect & opening aspect that you forget something like that. Heck with me, I completely forgot to transform the legs fully when I first got mine in that I didn't fold the vents down or pull the inner piece to close them up. It wasn't until I looked at this gallery that I realized I'd mucked up. That glossy black is almost too nice to be comfortable touching haha.

 

That group shot reminds me how much I still want a G2 Sideswipe in the Classics/Universe mold. And how much I am still irritated/disappointed that FunPub relegated him to the custom class, while Sky-Byte was in the G2 box set.  

A G2 Sideswipe from the Classics/Universe mold would make a great G2 representative for Generations Thrilling 30.  

Sigh.

 

I really like how this looks, the weapons he comes with look cool too. Also the expressive headsculpt is really cool as well.

 

I was going to pass on him. I'm not really into G2 stuff...but I was sold on the weapons. He is very impressive in person. I have him on the shelf with MP-10b, MP-13b, MP acid storm, YOTH Optimus and MP-12T. They look great together

 

I am so glad that G2 MP Sideswipe was my re-intro back into the TF fold. As a G-2 Fan, its a toy I've waited a long time for.

 

I never expected to like it as much as I do - I only bought it because Sideswipe was my favorite G1 toy and I never got the G2 version. But it's clear that they've hit it out of the park with this one. It really shows the love the designers put into their work when a repaint gets this much attention.

 

Just cracked mine open yesterday. The fact that this thing exists is a blessing, as I would've expected a more top-tier character like Prime or Grimlock to get a G2 MP before now. GEETOO for life ya'll.

 

I like weapons G2 Swipe comes with but I wish they were made so he could hold them better
