That's cool. I usually think movies try to fake flying scenes with CGI or studio backdrops.

Amazing technology. But I wonder what's up with that helicopter's deco on the last two shots.

that shot of bumblebee reminded me of some of the sequences in the final battle from the avengers movie.

I think that's just a military paint scheme, probably rented out a old military chopper.

One of those new Aerial Steady Cams would be wonderful if a show like Airwolf or Blue Thunder was made now. You;'d really be able to capture the dynamism and do things that would have been essentially impossible with 80's aerial cinematography.

Just wait. Since this is a Bay TF movie, someone will complain the helicopter's too small or the scenery's not beautiful enough.

Movies have shot with helicopter mounted cameras for years and years. Wescam has become the almost ubiquitous system for this kind of filming, though there are many other kinds of rigs. They spend most of their time developing on board gyroscopic rigs for the military and other commercial ventures.

lol.. considering that actual story telling and character development has taken a backseat in movies for a couple of years now, what else can they complain about? :3

movies these days are nothing more than 3 hour tech demos for videophiles

Considering the shots start at Wu-Long Karst, this could be swoop they are shooting.

Really? I thought using CGI would be cheaper than renting a helicopter.

Nope. CG imagery is vastly expensive.

Of course if you want to fly a chopper at a crazy angle down a main street in Chicago you are probably going to run to some expense too. But imagine the computer rendering for such a shot : 3D buildings, people, vehicles, all textured to 'real life' levels of quality. Lots of work.

Also worth bearing in mind that CG imagery has only relatively recently reached the kind of quality and relative cost that would make this even a possibility. Films have had aerial views shot from helicopters for about as long as they've been flying. If you want some recent examples you only have to look at the Lord of The Rings Trilogy - chock full of chopper shots.

People often assume 'oh that's done on a computer' - look at Titanic. In fact that film was made largely with a full-sized set photographed from a construction crane and a series of 50ft long model ships with CG only providing the water and putting people on the deck of the models.
