I may the only one....but is anyone else going to try and sell Spike once Bumble is in-hand? I never liked the suit much in the movie, and I'll probably transform it once/twice and then leave it in the box forever.

 

^ I'm not gonna sell it, but have no interest in ever displaying it. So it'll stay in the box the same way other 'meh' accessories like Prime's axe, Starscream's cape, etc. all do.

 

Exo-suit Spike will probably live with Ultra Magnus and Hot-Rod-imus-Prime, portraying Daniel. MP10 Spike will probably be besties with BB.

 

I think it's cool. I'm keeping it.

 

Exo-suit Spike is a big deal for me. I've gone on about him and all the other MP accessories many many times.

 

No point selling it, that would make your figure 'incomplete' if you every have to sell it afterwards. I would just leave it in it's vacuum formed prison if you disliked it that much.

I quite like the exo-suit, as I plan on displaying one version of each character in an ultimate hybrid style g1 display from an alternate universe where no one died in the entire series but somehow the sweeps and cyclonus still exist.

 

My exo is going on the same detolf shelf as Magnus and Rodimus; at least until there are more movie MP options (which I am not in a rush for).

 

Definitely displaying the exosuit. I don't know who would buy the exo suit anyway. I don't know any MP collector's that are skipping Bumblebee and going after the exo suit.

 

I think Spike is an amazing addition and deserves to be on the box just as much as Laserbeak or Ratbat.

According to the translation, he says that the transformation is difficult (which is surprising), and I *think* he says the plastic is painted - it certainly looks it. And: clear headlights! Looks amazing!



















I think he also said that these are just some quick initial mobile phone pictures, and that he'll be taking better ones soon. Other notes:
- Good articulation except for the fists and hands.
- Gun uses a round peg unlike other MPs.
- In-hand, the paint is much more orange than you might expect.

(Also, I love the way Google Translate works with Chinese - according to Google, the initial replies to the ACToys thread include, "Okay - waiting to see the landlord to eat crabs!" and "Peaches mighty". All phrases I may adopt.)

 

Awwwww yeah, clear headlights! Or at least a lighter blue. Still hate the placement of that insignia on his foot though. If they wanted one in car mode and one in not, they shoulda put one on the piece of the hood that hides away in bot mode.

Definitely not a deal breaker by any means, though. Just hope I can scrape the cash up for this before it's released!

 

Yep, and the clear headlights mean that Spike's helmet will almost certainly be clear too (or a very light blue), just like the headlights. As for the insignia, yeah, I know what you mean - when we saw the prototypes, I assumed they'd put it on the fold-away bit, it baffles me that they didn't, but as you say, it's far from a deal-breaker; I've got used to it. And he's mistransformed in those pictures, of course (Dean will be happy   ), as the person taking the pictures has forgotten to hide the roof insignia in alt mode - it looks much better with the insignia hidden. (Strange he forgot, seeing as he actually took a photo showing how it could flip over!)

 

Oh YESSS!!! Ambitron, these photos made my day, man! He looks AMAZING! Clear headlights?! Thank God! The blue windows look great, too! Not obnoxious or cheap looking at all.

The piece of the hood that folds under the chest, the roof/chest, and the roof/backpack are all painted. Everything else looks bare plastic - hood/feet, doors/side panels, head, forearms... looks fantastic, though! I'm definitely more excited for him than Wheeljack (and I LOVE Wheeljack), especially now!

 

Ha! I didn't even notice the symbol in alt mode - good eye! Guess I was too excited. But yeah, we get the typical practice of some lucky early owner posing the leaked MP with anything BUT MPs. ... the hell? Looks like bot mode's at least transformed correctly and the pose is fine.

 

Honestly, I still can't get over how well they managed his transformation. RID was on the air when I was little but my family couldn't afford cable so I grew up on G1 and Beast Era VHS tapes I found at yard sales and the like. When I was little, of course I had no idea G1 toys existed, and by the time I could buy them for myself, I was old enough that my imagination couldnt force me to imagine him as better than he was (or any G1 toy, really). So between him and the Rhinox and Rattrap toys I've always wanted, I'd say Transformers' 30th has been a great year for me!

 

Bumblebee's face is painted, right? Just not his helmet, I think.

 

I don't know - he all looks painted to me, but your eye for that is better than mine. The translation is unclear, as it says, "The color of the car, closer than imagined orange, paint plastics and paint plastic, have color", and trying in other translation engines doesn't help much - maybe it does mean painted plastic and coloured plastic. He definitely says it's a bit too orange (and it does look it, but that's a minor gripe), and that he likes the transformation, I think.

EDIT: Actually, looking again, I see what you mean: yep, the roof and hood piece are painted, as is the back end, but the rest of the hood and the doors and rear wheel arches are all bare, unpainted plastic. You can see quite clearly the difference in shades and glossiness in these two pictures:





So sadly it does look as though he is going to suffer from the standard different-shades-of-yellow issue that so many yellow figures have - it's a shame they didn't paint the rest to combat this, especially given that there's not much left to paint, but bah, he looks amazing nonetheless.

I wonder why they went for the orange-y colour, though - most VW Beetles use quite a bright yellow, don't they?

Well if that area is really bare plastic it should make it a lot easier to just remove the symbol off the hood, and place one on the flap if desired. Yeah... I might do that...

He does look very orange. Man, first Badcube Brawn was too yellow and now Bumblebee isn't yellow enough! It's gonna bug me if their colours are opposites of what they should be!
