Understandable, but that wasn't my point at all.

Would it kill them to bring this to the east cost. I know we had Florida a 2 years ago but how bout coming more north. They always make the east coasters travel. Not cool

I think you're confusing Fun Pub with Hasbro. Hasbro has just as much say if not more than Fun Pub as to where it is, as Hasbro partly pays for the convention.

From what my understanding, HASBRO wants BotCon to be in Pasadena EVERY YEAR. That it was only not in Pasadena in 2012 because Hasbro didn't want to help pay for it to be in Pasadena, so Fun Pub had to scramble to find a location and it ended up in Texas instead.

I've never quite understood this argument as a way to say its gotten worse. Going to Botcon is a vacation for us as well, but it's much easier to convince my wife that Dallas, Pasadena, or Orlando is a cool spot to vacation as opposed to Dayton or Ft Wayne....I remember Dayton, that whole town pretty much rolled up and closed for the weekend :p

Though after going to many Botcons over the years it's a hard sell for even Pasadena or Chicago at this point since she's seen them a lot...

Hasbro got their wish of a Botcon right next to SDCC last year - And the result was the worst Botcon in years. Sure it's great for Hasbro, but it hurts the show overall. Locals are not going to get excited about a little Botcon show with the biggest show of it's kind right around the corner. And people who do come tend to spend less because they want to have money left for SDCC.

On top of that, Hasbro sent a pretty bland display and a "B-team" of reps to the show. I don't think they showed anything that wasn't already well-known by the fandom. It could have been every bit as good of a show, if not better, in a more central location with Hasbro not even showing up.

Personally, I was fully expecting 14 to be in Pasadena, so this isn't news to me.

The more I see people bitching about California the more I want to see it become Botcons permanent home. This coming from a person that WANTS to go to TFcon but can't and doesn't bitch about it or curses Toronto to hell. Also curious of how many people that got a hemorrhoid over this are people that swore up a down that they'd never give FunPub their hard earned money ever again.

You can't compare what FunPub is doing to what was done in the early years of Botcon. In the beginning, Botcon was small and run by individuals using their own money to put the show on. They had little help from Hasbro if any at all. So of course that is why the convention was always in two locations in the Midwest - that's where the organizers lived! It's totally different to what FunPub can do today. FunPub can move the convention around way more easily than the organizers of the first Botcons could.

I think for a lot of people, it's not about the money. They need advance notice in order to get time off from work, which requires a specific date, and announcing in January tends not to give them sufficient notice.

Hopefully, this reveal (however unofficial) will remove that factor.

Indeed, the Evidence says based on current trends that we're not getting another Northern Botcon. Also need to keep in mind that we had Botcon 2006 and 2008 in Pete's backyard, so there was a certain convenience in place when those two locations were chosen. Had he not been a resident of that area, it's quite possible that neither location would have had Botcon those two years. Consider Hasbro's request for Providence in 2007 and you're likely looking at all southern Botcons from 2004 onward.

and they HAVE, that's the point...see the map above...If anyone has a right to complain I'd say it's people near Seattle....They are absolutely a major population center, plenty of touritsy things, and never a Botcon within 1000 miles...

Hasbro wants Pasadena more often than not. I can't put that blame on FunPub...and lord knows I'm not exactly their biggest fan...

And just because it's got an "official" company behind it hardly means it's doing that much better than when it was just "fan run"...I can say with abolute certainty that plenty of niche companies run for fandoms are just as paycheck to paycheck and just one bad week of sales away from dissaster as any rag tag fan group.

You can't have it both ways...if people are going to throw FP vs 3H as a way to show that fans today are getting screwed, you can't complain when the evidence thrown out doesn't back that claim up unless you happen to live where it used to be all the time...which would make that entire argument hypocritical...

Why not St. Louis?! It's big, it's touristy, and it's as close to the middle as big-touristy cities gets!

EDIT: ...either that or Denver. I would say KC, but I'm not familiar with how touristy it is. (I'd guess not very)

I'd say Denver not only because I live here, but there are some tits areas for Cons near/in DTC. I always wondered why not Vegas?

The funniest thing about 2013's con, was it was in a place that also had a Scrapbook Expo, and a Scooter Meetup the same weekend. I kept waiting for someone to do an image combining Transformers, Scrapbooking, and Scooters.

Though regarding Pasadena, I remember overhearing the 'P' word several times during my last day on the show floor this year.

However, I might not go next year, and instead, make my triumphant return to Comic-con after 14 years (yes, I'm an old man looking to recapture his youth).
