For our next gallery, we are bringing you a look at one of the most awaited Deluxe class toys Hasbro has released in their Generations line. Ever since the Classics line was revived as Universe, fans have eagerly awaited a Trailbreaker to complete their Classics set of original 1984 Autobots. Now at long last in the new IDW comic pack-in Generations series, Trailbreaker finally has his Classics toy! Renamed Trailcutter for trademark reasons (or because Whirl convinced him that having "breaker" in his name was a bad idea) the Autobot forcefield specialist is here to fill out a gap on those Classics Autobots shelves!

We'll get the negatives out the way first for this toy - yes, the vehicle mode is quite small or "compact" you might say, and yes, the robot mode is not quite as large as perhaps a Classics Trailbreaker ought to be. And yes, the torso has a small problem staying clicked in (but not like Generations Blitzwing levels of frustration). If you put that aside, though, ou have a very nicely designed Autobot for your collection. Trailcutter is solidly built, stout and free of extraneous vehicle bits in robot mode. A lot of his vehicle mass goes on his chest and arms, giving Trailcutter a heroic and well-built robot mode that nicely evokes a modern interpretation of the Generation 1 toy as well as the robot mode design featured in the More than Meets the Eye comics. Trailcutter's weapon is a shield / blaster hybrid that can store on the back to evoke the "two missiles on the shoulders" look of the Generation 1 toy. All in all, Trailcutter is a nicely designed Deluxe class toy, well-proportioned, spot on to the art, and extremely fun to play about with.

Enough of our rambling now - open the link below to check out our full gallery of Trailcutter to judge for yourself!

This last picture was inspired by the line from the bio about Trailbreaker being well-liked by his fellow Autobots. I wanted to show Trailbreaker with some of the other 1984 characters who had been featured in Classics, and once I figured Ironhide could be clapping him on the shoulder in a "you did good lad" kind of way, the rest came together naturally.

Seeing him with Ironhide and Hound shows you just how crappy those two figures are in robot mode

DEF need updates for those two

Hasbro calls him "Trailcutter" coz they really cut down his size to make him a Generations-midget...

Evs, B. This figure is just so sweet. I'm so glad he didn't come out last year with the other crappy quality deluxes. Trailcutter, along with the latest voyagers is a sure sign that Hasbro gives a shit about transformers again. And he appears to be taller than G1 Trailbreaker, so I suppose we can drop the size crying.

I think i would have preferred him as a small voyager, but glad to have him, none the less.

I like him, he's coming tomorrow with Metroplex. I just hate the fact they scaled Deluxes back so far, and for the prices they might as well have made all the Deluxes, Voyagers for Generations.

My favorites are Prime, Mirage, Hound, Prowl, Bluestreak, Wheeljack and Jazz. Trailbreaker is a second string with Sideswipe, Ironhide and Ratchet....which I seriously hope we get new, better Ironhide and Ratchet molds. I never had Sunstreaker for whatever reason.

Agreed! I really love the Ark crew - I have fond memories of the original Marvel comics and the cartoon.

Nice gallery! I really dig the shot with Ironhide, Hound etc! It is like a scene from the original toon.

My two complaints of the figure:

    1. The size but I'm glad it's not as bad as the FOC figures; and

    2. The IDW homage. The IDW designs are nice but darn it, there's a reason why the line is called 'Generations'. I would prefer if TrailBreaker resembles more of his G1 counterparts like the rest of his brothers in arms. Eg. Wheeljack, Sideswipe, Prowl etc.

It is a beautiful bot mode...but truck mode is pretty teeny. Still I'm glad I have it.

The reason it's called Generations is because it's not just a bunch of G1 rehashes, so I think it's perfectly fine.

It's too bad that he's so small, but the toy is fantastic and looks to be sized okay in robot mode! (Hound is also fantastic and I'm sad that anyone doesn't like him.)

I picked up a pair of Trailbreaker's last week - havent had time to open yet, but posted images he looks pretty strong.

I personally dont mind the size as I prefer to work my scale using deluxe as a base.
Therefore I collect very little voyager, mostly deluxe and cyberverse/commander class.
