The problem with these combined modes is the proportions in lower body compared to upper, there has got to be a way to bulk up the lower body

I'd say Rail Racer was the last great combiner they put out. Sadly the approach that was used on him Magnaboss and Tripredacus seems to have been completely abounded for the "let them switch around" scramble city like stuff, that tends to well the results speak for themselves.

Unfortunately very true. I was interested when these were announced and the art was revealed, but man the proportions on these are wonky.

  But isn't Rail Racer pretty much the same as these guys though, minus the interchageability? Team Bullet Train all have extremely long legs and small upper bodies.

If they were decepticons no one would buy them. The market reality that kids don't want to buy bad guy toys is even more pronounced in Japan. To the point that these guys need to all be Autobots.

What is the mentality difference between cultures that causes that? I always tended to like the villains more as a kid, my GI Joe collection was like 20:1 in favor of Cobra. I generally just think the bad guys in most toylines look cooler.

Fire engine on top and jet on bottom is definitely the best combo. The police car as feet looks awful. The rest are ok. I get why people are put off but this is new ground for takara, they've never attempted the getter robo style multi configuration combination before, I can't imagine it's an easy thing to design. I do think that these will be a lot of fun to fiddle with.

The ninja combo is looking very nice.

I am surprised though that we still haven't seen a single picture of the plug(s) these toys are using. I'm intrigued to see if they all have the same type (like powerlinx) or if they each have their own unique plugs.

I was thinking "show me toys, not concept art and cartoon pics." Now that they have, I can safely ignore these now.

Yeah, the individual members suffered a bit from bad proportions. BUT the combined mode was ace.

lets not keep comparing it to Getter though. They did take a lot from Getters, but Getters, if I remember correctly, most Getter robo combinations have one of the 3 jets as a backpack.

The problem with these, as Takara SHOULD have figured out earlier in design, is that the Torso is too long, and the legs are too thin.

What they could have done on consideration (options):

    1. Make the "third member" of any combination be the backpack + weapons, or add via part form, some stuff to the legs to bulk them up.

    2. If we must have a 3 member torso, each member should be adding only a thin part of the torso. The main unit (the one that becomes the head) should have a chestplate that covers 2/3 of the torso to give it the personality you need.

It's the whole problem that we had in energon that they made no improvement to: basically because of interchangability combined arms = combined legs, so they are at a compromising proportion.

Between the combined mode proportions and the generic super-robot stylings, these just look awful to me.

Hideous, but I wonder what they would look like if they remove the middle guy in the combined mode.

The Japanese TFPrime Toy market is weird, first Microns, now Ninja and Data Disc Predacons. Transformers in general always had unusual gimmicks to distinguish itself form the other hundred Robot toys, and within its own line, so I am aware of the necessity of Gimmicks. But Takara needs lay off of the design compromising Gimmicks. I have a feeling that future Transformers are going to split into two lines. A continuation of the Cyberverse line and a Gimmick line; heck it could be argued to a certain degree that it already happened with the Weaponizes and Ultimate class. I don't see the current size classes of Deluxes and Voyagers lasting much longer.

It's a Direct to DVD OVA Movie.

if the stacking connector is the same you COULD probably connect all 6 of them together.

That would also lead to the possibility of only having 2 of them combine and make for a not-too-long chest.

This, also great train modes, and given how they got three distinct-ish lookk out of the long thin trains that all combine to form a great super robot? More then a success.

Here we have three good alt-modes on the samurai side, that are all different, are slight futuristic letting them fudge more and we get below average robot modes and a crap combined mode. The ninja's have blocks with animal features stuck on them as alt-modes, and well that lets them get good robot modes the combined mode still stinks.

Compare that to say Magnaboss with three really solid beast modes, some blah robot modes, (though Prowl is good and Ironhide's has a charm to me.) and a wonderful combined mode. two out of three compared to one out of three.

So just to throw this into the mix I think we need to look at these guys from the perspective of the Japanese kid and parent who will be the target for these guys.

Its unlikely a kid will own all 3 before they go off the market not impossible just unlikely as these are highish priced compared to the legends stuff. I know I never finished a scramble style combiner so I can see it happening all over again for a lot of kids. So maybe TakTom put their time towards making them solid solo figures and if a kid gets all 3 then while he wont have the best combined mode ever he still has 3 nice toys.

As for the combos its compromise. Something has to give to keep costs down and its more logical to make they good stand alone figures then 1 great combo. It also helps that if a kid likes the first solo fig he's more likly to get the others unlike us collectors who will forgive some aspects so long as down the line it will pay off.

Hm..Well..I do like the fact that they work like Arbegas: having different combinations between the 3 robots. But the final combinations are kinda...not appealing. At least to me. :S
But the individual robot modes are pretty cool just like their alternate modes. So..that's a point in their favor.
    Thanks for the images! :D
