Paramount Pictures To Cast Chinese Actors For ‘Transformers 4′ Via A Reality TV Show

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that "Transformers 4 Chinese Actor Talent Search" is a new talent competition show that will be hitting Chinese airwaves in June.
The film’s Chinese backers will be represented by Jia Qi, deputy director of the film’s Chinese co-producers China Movie Channel; and Liang Longfei, vice-president of m1905, the channel’s portal through which contestants (who need to be over 18) can register for the show. Producers said the four winning contestants will join “a number of talented Chinese actors and actresses” in ‘Transformers 4.’ The third film in the franchise, Transformers: Dark of the Moon,’ generated $165 million in China, and stands fourth in the country’s overall box-office rankings behind ‘Avatar,’ ‘Lost in Thailand’ and ‘Journey to the West: Conquering the Demons.’

Through pre-recorded video footage, Sid Ganis told the Chinese press that the show will, “give actors and fans of the Transformers franchise the opportunity to be appearing in a major motion picture, and it will provide the world audience yet another glimpse of the Chinese people, the Chinese culture and China itself.” While Lorenzo DiBonaventura added that his team, “are looking forward to becoming more and more part of the Chinese audience’s experience by bringing the Chinese culture, Chinese traditions and Chinese talent into the movie”.

    I just heard about it.

Not sure what to think about it, but it seems an insane way of casting someone.

The only reason they are doing this is for money, they spend a few bucks on a reality tv show to get attention for the Chinese to watch the movie. This is very unnecessary and thisovie is turning like a joke to me. For once can't they stop thinking about the money and making shit transformers films.

This seems... weird. Very obviously a nod towards trying to curry favor with the population of China- a place where the TF movie franchise is quite popular- but otherwise seems pointless. No worse than "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo" or any of the other inane stateside reality shows that we have here, but still seems like an odd concept. Perhaps 'circus like atmosphere' is the best way to describe how I feel about this. More and more the hype machine surrounding these movies builds and eventually this cash cow's teets are going to run very, very dry. Then what? :bay

haha this is an all time low, reality tv is the bottom of the barrel. This has to be for a nonspeaking role, or a one liner at the very least.

lol what a circus is right, I still remember the "Choose Optimus' line" contest, where "Do a Barrel Roll" won first place.

If people dont see how much of a joke Bay considers this property by now, I dont know what will change their minds.

There is no mistake. Transformers 4 is what happens when a shitty director who has waaayy too much money gets bored and wants a laugh.

Bay gets an actor who's actually heard of the Touch and doesn't like it (to be fair, most who aren't nostalgic about it don't like it) then claims he got the idea off the fans.

He castes an actress from the Last Airbender, a film where critics, fans and the general public united to hate it.

He holds a coffee commercial making contest to get someone to be... whatever they want.

And now there's a Chinese reality show to get actors for the film.

You can't help but be impressed by what lengths Bay is going to in order to make this films a joke.

as derp as this news is. I can't help groan at the majority of this thread thus far. isn't this the same stuff you guys have said for the last three movies and in every thread semi-related to the along the way? y'all need to chill. even though I know you won't and it's just gonna keep spiraling through the haterade whirlpool... <.<; don't have to like these things, but not making the rest of us look like a frothing cauldron of hate by association would be nice.

To me, having a reality show about a future movie sounds like cheap advertisement which may work to advertise the movie but doesn't mean that people will buy the ticket.

    Hopefully I'm wrong

So, let me get this straight...

Michael "God Bless America and the Army and Explosions" Bay is now selling out to China.
Y'know, the guy who became who he is because PATRIOTISM!!! [/Film Brain] - the army gives him free extras and tanks and jets and whatnot because he portrays them in a good light in his movies. And now, the man goes to work with the country who is currently the US's only equal. If that's not backstabbing, I don't know what is.

Also, a reality TV show. Because we know how great actors are born from Reality TV, right? Let Bay hire some Big Brother actors next. Pure Talent!!!

Aside from the endless Bay bashing that comes with every new thread that ever mentions him(ya'll need to get a life to quote The Shatner), this looks more like a way of covering themselves and to gain favor when the Chinese finally invade America after they own everything we have.

It's a reality show for a minor role in a major movie. That is all. It's not to help the movie, the transformers franchise is already huge there. The reality producers are using the excitement of being in what will probably be another record breaking movie in the Chinese boxoffice. It cannot be any worse than the reality crap on american TVs today. No need to get pissy over it. I think some posters need their nap time.

Yeah I agree with you. Its nothing to get bent over. A nap time and milk and cookies should calm down those that so desperately cling to their childhood.

What's with all this China stuff? Nothin against the Chinese, but I'm not sure I'm liking the way this is heading. I mean, a reality show? Seriously??
