The description was referring to the new member of Team Prime: Ultra Magnus.

I believe one of two things will happen:

Smokescreen sacrifices himself for Optimus's longevity.

2.

Smokescreen takes the matrix, uses the Forge to fix Optimus, and then returns the matrix.

I wonder if it is Ultra Magnus--why not use his name, when he's already been in two episodes prior?

I think we're supposed to think it's Ultra Magnus, but in the end it won't be him--like G1, he's going to fail at leading in Optimus' absence. I remember Hot Rod saving the day.

That shot of Smokescreen on bended knee, head down and palms to the ground looks pretty primed to introduce a new character  I only wonder if he'll be alone or with someone else...

 

Alpha Trion is my guess.

 

I think Smokescreen will become leader and than find a way to revive Optimus Prime

 

That would be a nice little not to G1, especially if Alpha rebuilds Optimus.

On topic -

I won't say "never", but it's doubtful the writers would have an Autobot sacrifice himself for Optimus. It would most likely be the other way around, if the situation called for it. They're not going to have someone else sacrifice for him, it's usually him sacrificing for everyone else.

 

I'm looking forward to Smokescreen and Ultra Magnus meeting for the first time. 'Cuz, I don't think Magnus is going to take kindly to Smokescreen being a Prime.

Really... as much as I enjoy TFP... you know they 180ed would-be outcomes that were "bad" within an episode... sometimes even a commercial break!

Case in point: Season 2's teasing of "Decepticon Orion Pax."

I think so too, and that's exactly what happened--the captain went down with the ship after making sure all souls were accounted for and away.

Wouldn't he just accept him? The Matrix bonds itself to whoever is the chosen one. When it chose Optimus, the Autobots fell in line.

Smoke screen, while a Cybertronian and an Autobot is also a relic (says Alpha Trion). Whatever the case, there's something special to him, both Optimus and Alpha Trion have said so. Optimus believes he's the next Prime in the long line of Primes--but what if he's misinterpreted the signs given him?

Should Optimus pass the Matrix on to Smokescreen, it should bond to him as it did Jack in season 2.

The Autobots follow whoever carries the Matrix of Leadership. Not doing so would be against protocol

I was wondering why he is tagging his ideas as well.

Maybe the Optimus Prime is Smokescreen with Optimus armor, like Optimus with Jetfire armor in the movie, not actually prime himself.

Maybe he will bust out of the armor after they win the fight.

 

I wonder if Smokescreen will sacrifice his Spark to repair Optimus. Or if Mangnus will use the forge and repair Prime. Either way I think this episode Prime will have his new body.

 

I don't think that's likely, as Optimus' bio is Optimus' story and the same is true for Smokescreen too.

And there's that bit about Alpha Trion telling Optimus that he sent him the most significant and powerful of all relics during season 2, the last two relics were the final Omega key and Smokescreen. Smokescreen's a closet bad @$$ 

 

I too, am looking forward for Smokes and UM to meet.

Possibly, UM might find it difficult to accept Smokes as a Prime but let's not jump to conclusions just yet.

 

Man that shot of dead Prime really highlights the "failings" of his face design. He looks so goofy, like an internet memeface, with his sad eyebrows and D: expression. I've never overtly disliked the Prime designs, but their faces don't really have an appropriate range of emotions. Afterall, Megatron, when he's not looking just typical scowled-evilface, always looks so ridiculous whenever he has to widen his eyes or open his mouth wide.
