Eh, if they film in Chicago again for anything other than flashbacks to the battle then i will be disappointed. I dont want to see another attack on the same place, that'll be boring to watch seeing as i know they'll just rebuild it again.

There's only a four year difference between the last movie and this movie right? Which must mean that Chicago is still under a ton of construction because that city was demolished. So, what could they do there? Unless a Decepticon previously thought to have died in th battle suddenly wakes up and blasts his way out of there. I could see that being the opening scene. :bay

I hope Chicage is chosen because the 'bots decided to stay put there (hint: auto-base) , and the mayor gives a green light for that.. and of coz.. the usual "we'll fix the city up for you, offer tech to cure/save human lives as a return favor.

Lets not forget that a very large decepticon ship went down in Chicago. We don't know what the government did with that. Not to mention the Ark still on the moon. That could still come into play.

All the main cast Decepticons were killed. Any survivers were taken from their into space via the portals. There are no decepticons.

Four years would probably be enough to repair/demolish any broken buildings. Personally i feel it'll probably just be for flashbacks.

Man, I wish the Ark would come back into play. But I'm not holding my breath on that. :(

Yeah, he's done it before with like, a half-dozen shots sprinkled randomly throughout the whole movie. Reusing a single shot of Jetfire twice or taking two shots from The Island and adding a CG Decepticon or colour correction does not equate to recycling an entire 45 minute act and replacing the robots. For all of the time, money and effort it would take to "re use footage from Chicago and put different bots fighting", they could easily just, you know, not do that. Put their effort into something more worthwhile. (*cough*thescript*cough*)

Then who would they use as the villian? There's got to be a Decepticon(s) somewhere plotting revenge or what not. Heck, maybe someone didn't wake up on the Moon in the last movie and when he does is all like, "Well crap. I missed all that. Oh well, let me just beat on some Autobot butt anyway."

Maybe in a fictional universe like the movies four years is enough, but in real life, no.

If a city took as much damage as Chicago did in the movie, it would be a long process. Look at the World Trade Center in New York. That happened over 11 years ago, and they still aren't done rebuilding. And that was just one small section of Manhattan, imagine an entire city destroyed that much.

Any Decepticons in Dark of the Moon are dead and gone - we wont have a Decepticon wake up in Chicago - four years after the battle.

I knew someone would bring that up - honestly I hoped we wouldn't because that is honestly a stupid situation to reference. The World Trade Center 'rebuild' is taking longer for a multitude of reasons with barely any actually being construction related - the first being the fact that after the attacks they promised to build a memorial park on the site. The second being that due to the events that took place at the World Trade Center they wanted to rebuild it stronger and more impressive looking. Thirdly, the plans for the rebuild were stated in 2006 as taking at least 6 years. Lets not forget the recession/depression meaning production of a sky scraper that costs them 3.8 billion are likely to slow a little. The rebuilt design is also the largest freaking building in the city - while in DOTM we are talking about simple sky scrapers - this building is about 1/3 higher.

Put simply; this is a large scale building which was taken down outside of a war time zone - the buildings in Chicago had been evacuated and with the high death toll it likely means they wouldn't count individual buildings being the location of memorial sites. Depending on the scale of the rebuild effort + Autobot help it would be easily done in a max of 6 years (Human construction time)

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Trade_Center#New_buildings

I would also like to note that the 'destruction' in Dark of the Moon was essentially just a few broken skyscrapers and some missiles which hit into some layers of apartment buildings. This damage is not that much, especially considering the most important fact - THEY HAVE AUTOBOT HELP. After the events of ROTF - the Pyramid was rebuilt in less than a week via the Autobots. Do you really think a couple of buildings is going to take a long time when you have a robot that can carry all the supplies there and deliver them to virtually anywhere they need to be instantly? Removing the need for cranes.

Sounds like a very long shoot.

I half suspect they might be shooting 2 films back to back.

Thankfully the fictional universe of Transformers doesn't have to worry about that. Because Chicago wasn't destroyed in DOTM. Chicago is an incredibly large city (3rd largest in the US), and in DOTM the final battle took place in a relatively small area of the city. The metropolitan area, where the attack in DOTM took place, also was not destroyed. It had many locations of severe damage, but the infrastructure as a whole was very much intact at the end of DOTM.

It's like saying "the pyramids were destroyed in ROTF." No, they weren't. One pyramid suffered a lot of damage at the top. The base of the structure remained, as did the bottom 80%.

One thing to keep in mind is that just because filming takes place at a certain location doesn't mean that it representing that same location in the film. A good example from DOTM is the scenes in Russia. Those were filmed in Gary, IN, (just outside of Chicago, for those not familiar) near the area where my in-laws grew up.

From my understanding, Michael Bay built quite a rapport with both the cities of Chicago and Gary, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were giving Bay incentives and special access in order to attract him and other filmmakers to the area. I would expect Chicago to make an appearance just for the name drop, but I expect that many of the scenes filmed there won't actually be taking place in Chicago in the movie.

Pretty much this. Also bringing up the Pyramid example to note that the Autobots rebuilt it in a week I believe...
