I doubt its the Matrix,as that should be in Optimus' chest. I don't think it's the Starsaber either. Energon related? Maybe.

Star Saber - most likely.

The Matrix would not be outside of Optimus's body at this point as in the trailer we see him pretty much alive.

If it is the Star Saber then none of the Decepticons will be able to wield it - with Cybertron pretty much destined to die and Megatron no longer possessing the hand of a Prime he will be unable to lift it... so Optimus will have to retrieve it himself.

Wheeljack will probably do something stupid revealing that Optimus is not dead - forcing Optimus to reveal himself to get the Star Saber and likely naming Smokescreen as 'Prime' in his absense giving him the ability to wield the Star Saber until Prime returns later in the series.


Also... just pointing it out that the insecticon in the background is likely just a random insecticon.


Also... i am guessing the silver drones were just for show in series 2 - its very disappointing to see the old versions here.

 

Actually in the trailer from IGN, the Vehicon Generals show up in the trailer for a brief moment landing in a forest in badassness!

Yeah but I doubt Wheeljack would do that, he's an Autobot to the core, I'm pretty sure he's gonna stand with them cuz the Decepticons outnumber them a hundred to one.

plus if Optimus made Smokescreen a "Prime" he would just have to pass on the Matrix, then Smokescreen could wield the Star Saber, but we do have a CGI Version of the "New" Prime (BH Optimus) so I doubt someone will replace him, maybe temporarily.

Also, doesn't Wheeljack make a "discovery" that helps them out, I'm assuming its new gear/tech to combat the Decepticons and Predicons.

QTF... and frankly this seems overdue. We've seen tons of great reveals but 2013 is only two months in, so I have confidence that this could still happen (an SDCC unveiling perhaps?), but it just needs to.
