I like it as a stand alone toy. I don't like it as the character it's supposed to represent (especially at convention exclusive price).

Dunno why, I had basic Obsidian and Megaplex when I was in 3rd grade, and I'm totally all about that toy accurate rendition of Obsidian, but this Megaplex is just meh. I'll stick with my Dreadwing.

The body and alternate mode are accurate even if the head is not. I'd rather have Dreadwing than some Megatron tank.

Not everyone can have a new head at Botcon, even when they really should.

Wow, Pete seems to have zero passion for this huge franchise, judging by his reply earlier.

He operates based on the game "Telephone"?

    Really?!?

IMO the attitude for choices should be more based on Authenticity and love, and less about "Meh *shrugs*, It was available at the time, so we used it as a shoe-in"

This just like that post saying that the Fan Club isn't run by fans!

Which was a jerkass thing to say, and this is to.

    How so?

IMO It is in fact how he's coming off. The replies speak for themselves. *shrugs*

and if it was truly ran by fans for the fans, what fans do you know of, would make these sorts of lousy choices?

The theme had some great potential, but as with most themes chosen...it has ultimately become a travesty.

But..., that's the way it is sometimes when dealing with a fan ran thing eh? It's always a gamble.

    I'm not one to gamble.

It would be fun if they came with Arms Microns rather than light-up weapons or none - or perhaps even a repurposed DOTM Mechtech weapon.

Yes, but he's a huge GI Joe fan...

Pete brings the passion to the Transformers side of things.

I'm still in disagreement with them as to how well it works, but I do really find such explanations helpful, and agree that folks should read that Twitter account.

Hence my use of the word 'if'. But you're right, my wordings were pretty strong, and speculation without facts is not helping - I apologize for that.

So, what is your work process?

    Also, I find this strange:
Because here you do admit that you guys picked one thing over the other - you, for whatever reason, decided to use Megaplex as a character.

Why? He's a cool character, sure, but he's not the only one left from Machine Wars to update (and you've already shown you are not limiting yourself to existing Machine Wars characters, which is cool).

So what made you decide on using him and not some other character? Because the way I see it, it doesn't do what it's supposed to: Megaplex' only schtick is that he's an expendable clone Megatron uses as a decoy, and this guy doesn't look a thing like Megatron. Altmode and paintjob? sure, but he's lacking that one important thing - his head...and I think you even have been better off using a character that does look like Megatron, but has a different altmode. If this mold was actually picked over another, I don't even want to know what the other option was.

Nobody who pointed out during the brainstorm process that there actually wasn't a mold accurate enough for Megaplex, and the set might be better off with another character idea? Or were available molds just that limited?

I genuinely appreciate there being a TF Club, and a big official convention - I wish to visit someday. The toys are not the most important thing, the fun is - but that doesn't mean I don't have some serious doubts about how some sets/exclusives turn out - this being a great example. Like I said a couple posts back, Botcon has seen some stellar box sets, high points like Dawn of Future Past, Shattered Glass and the Stunti-Con Job, but then you guys seem to do a total 180 and release stuff like that SG Soundwave with a headband and a GI Joe decal, A SG Drift who's supposed to be a Deadpool homage but is pretty much just a red Drift, and now this.
    Yes, I'm having serious doubts.

Buuut you know, you can't please everybody - so I'll just leave it at that. I think I've said enough about it already. I'm sure it will make people happy.

Not fact, just speculation, with the underlying idea that it could be very possible, seeing as I'm already questioning decisions made, not for the first time. Twitter statements that say they saw some sort of connection between Dreadwing and Megaplex because of Megaplex' inaccurate boxart don't really help, either.

That's just somebody's opinion, and far from being the worst claim somebody can make.

Besides, does it matter if the club is run by fans? It's a business. :)  What you want is people up top who know how to run that. I couldn't care less if they are fans or not.
Now on the creative side, on the other hand - I think it's crucial that there are professionals who are also fans - because they know better what fans want to see than people who have no clue what franchise they're working with. But they seem to have that covered.

edit: I added some words that were missing and changed some wording to make it more clear.

No. He's saying the other board users are playing Telephone. They read his comment, jump to the wrong conclusion then tell everyone else this wrong conclusion as if it were a fact.

    Much like you just did.

I gotta admit I didn't see this one coming. As soon as they announced Megaplex as the final character in the box set I thought they were gonna use the Energon Starscream mold again.
