Other then maybe giving people the idea to not bother with 3rd party stuff since Hasbro might release their own later, I don't see how this really impacts igear. Do any stores still have it in stock? Igear made all their $$$ they would see from it years ago.

It wasnt Igear that came up with Defender it was FP. And again, they are doing a re-release so yeah it effects them as everyone is dropping their pre-orders in favor of the Hasbro version.

Given they've gone quiet since the issues with their Ironhide/Ratchet i'm not entirely surprised they've gone quiet. They tried to show off too many products at once. Remember Presser, and then showing heads for a whole bunch of Wreckers?

Yeah, we've not heard a peep about those in about a year.

i think if fp would drop their prices, there would be little need to be threatened by a hasbro priduct and not as many people would be dropping defender preorders

You say that like it's actually possible.

A good portion of the 3P prices are determined by economics of scale. 3P toys cost $80 to buy because they cost $50 to make, and the manufacturers and stores need to make a bit of a profit too.

Materials costs are negligible. It's the tooling and overhead that kill. So Hasbro can get away with selling their toys at $15 because they can spread the overhead costs over a release window 10-20x the size of what 3P companies can manage.

What about the people who already own Defender and are selling him in anticipation of the Hasbro product?

They would probably make the faster sale...although for slightly less than the going retail of Defender. But that would be more money in the pocket for them.

    DON'T TALK SHIT ABOUT FANSPROJECT!!!!!!!!!!

In all seriousness, everyone who bought any 3P figure had to anticipate the thought of HasTak producing a matching fig. The entire collecting game is a giant risk as far as resale value goes, and 3P stuff is no different. That is why I don't get anything unless I can be happy with it still in my collection after something better comes along. Take GDO Springer. He's already on the short list to be whatever the hell that green Vortex was from Battle Gaia.

but in the world where online retail is king id say its certainly possible to expand the means of where they sell the product and lower expenses as well.

A lot of these companies are supported by every major online retailer out there.

Very little of this product actually sells out immediately. Adding another 1000 units to drop the price by $10 isn't going to help things much. You may get a few more sales on account of the lower prices, but likely not 1000 units worth.

Ok fair enough, but any collectors buying something to re-sell within a few years should already expect to lose money unless its truly a rare limited one-time production piece.

That being said Fansproject is putting out quality bots while almost all of the FoC line is straight cheaply made hollow garbage. My Defender will remain on my classics shelf (albeit mostly on his ass since the feet can't support a decent pose) regardless if I buy Hasbro's Springer or not, because he fits in that line waaaay better.

I doubt third-party companies will see much of a hit unless Hasbro can really step their game up. If they can manage to do that it's a win-win for real collector's because we'll get better retail bots, and most likely cheaper third-party pieces.
