That's a good thing on my book. I miss when the only gimmicks in transformers were articulation and transforming.

I guess that it's possible that an entire wave would be repaints of a single mold but that is quite rare right?

Really, only the Soundwave/Soundblaster wave strikes me as the oddball.

FOC Astrotrain is probably going to be pretty nice in both modes since suttles and trains arent very different silhoutte wise. I want it!

You're so excited, you had to tell us twice!

Besides they can cheat a bit with the cybertronian altmodes. All it takes for me to want it however, is for it to have a really cool bot mode. Here's hoping we see something on the upcoming toy fair!

The more I look at that Springer artwork, the less hope I have for the figure in all honesty.

Simple. Front pods flip sideways so that the wheels are on the bottom. The rear wheels are on the back of the legs in robot mode, so I'm guessing that they either fold in or move out of the way. They won't be 100% gone like in the concept art, but it's definitely doable.

I can see that for the front wheels. The back wheels I guess can transform into that reactor with the gun.

Yeah I guess i can see it done. The flight mode it going to be the derpy one, but hey it's a triple changer.

I agree with you that the gunship mode missile pods serve as robot mode shoulders. This being the case however, we already have an issue - where do the robot mode forearms go in gunship mode? Accommodating that particular element of the transformation alone will require some fairly sophisticated engineering.

Now, let us assume that the buggy mode front wheels do, indeed, also serve as the aforementioned missile pods. Those wheels appears to be almost twice the size of the missile pods. How do they transform? Do the wheels themselves shrink somehow, to fit inside of the missile pod housings? How will this interact with the aforementioned engineering necessary to handle the issue of the disappearing / reappearing robot mode forearms?

To be fair, this is concept art from a company that specializes in producing video games first, and workable transformations second. However, this does not change the fact that Hasbro will most likely not be able to realize this concept art as a figure in a wholly accurate way.

Albeit, with quite the non-traditional size disparity between members - Springer, as a voyager, will be largest; whereas Impactor, Roadbuster, Whirl, Twin Twist and Topspin will all be Deluxes. (Additionally, if Springer is produced to the same 'healthy' height as the recent Voyager Soundwave, then the disparity may be even more pronounced.)

Broadside is a hijacked train? And that's in the game? Blegh.

Pretty much this. Theoretically, Hasbro could engineer some form of transformation for the wheels themselves; however, this is an extremely tricky proposition to fulfill. More likely that they will shrink the wheels, enlarge their housings, rearrange the overall transformation scheme or perhaps all three.

Okay, that I can see happening - if the front wheels end up parallel to the ground, then they can pass for lift fans. However, this does not change the fact that the robot mode shoulders are produced from the very same missile pods / front wheel pods; and that the robot mode forearms are very clearly connected to said shoulders in robot mode, but appear completely absent in gunship and buggy mode.

Yeah, but he never actually transforms into robot mode, nor is he identified as anything other than a transport.

Looks interesting but we will see how it translates to plastic. But where's the love for Ironhide/Ratchet? I really don't want to spend $100 plus on the igear versions which don't look quite right, but with each announcement Hasbro is painting me into that corner bit by bit!

Agreed with the poster a few pages back that Hot Rod/Rodimus is badly in need of an update.

    Gimmie NOW!!!
authentic pics hopefully wont be far behind.
Hasbro is definitely listening by making more voyagers to cancel out the negativity of the smaller deluxes.

True, but they are all new designs anyway and Springer is the leader so he gets to be big (sorry Impactor). :)

Actually a bigger issue to me is that he will tower over Ultra Magnus. Perhaps UM won't take to the field with his Wreckers this time. :p

Wait WHAT? The "energon transport" was supposed to be BROADSIDE at some point? The only thing it has in common with him is "big like his aircraft carrier mode."

I really hope that this time Springer will be good. As a kid I had to choose between Blitzwing, Astrotrain, Springer and Sandstorm. Of course I wanted all of them, but I could get only one at the moment. After a long moment of thinking about it, I chose Sandstorm. The others I never saw again in stores :(  I really want a good Springer.
