I imagine this has probably been reported, but I tried searching with New Zealand Mint, transformers coins and it gave me about 100 hits each with nothing in the title suggesting this lol

    Anyways...if already reported, please lock/delete ;)

For $233.66 USD, you can set up a preorder to snag yourself 2 pretty snazy coins. One featuring Optimus Prime and the other Megatron (who else?).

TRANSFORMERS 1oz Silver Coin Set | New Zealand Mint

    release date April 2013

how does this make sense?? Why would the Mint of this country even make these.... I'd love to have a set but i'm not spending that. I'll wait for the infomercial and get them for the special introductory price of $19.99 plus S&h... Maybe i'll even get a special gift that i have to pay a separate processing fee for and S&H.

The spot price + markup for profit + insurance and shipping should make these for about $40-$45 each, -or- $80-$90 for the set of two, not $200+. Unless these are 10oz silver coins they won't find many buyers. I can go to APMEX.com and buy 3 or 4 coins for this price....

...the good news is that once the price deflates it may be a good chance to pick up some quality silver for less than spot (maybe)...

Wicked cool. But way too overpriced. This set should be about 80 dollars. I don't know how they came up with over 200.

I think you are underestimating this just a bit. The spot price for just the base silver is about $32.50. Packaging, shipping and insurance would probably eat up the remaining difference you have in there.

Minting coins is not a cheap process. I would expect them to shoot for a mark-up of at least 100% over the market value of the base metal.

I actually buy a lot of silver and would consider these if they were anywhere in the same zip code of what 1 Troy Oz of silver actually should sell for.

Why does money cost so much money? They do look nice but that's a lot of coin for a couple of coins.

Im ashamed to say I was suckered into the First Star Wars set they offered. Figured I could buy it and sell it down the road to fast some loot, seeming how big the SW market is. Well with the exchange rates fluxin all the time,I will probably at most break even on em. That said these look great but just not worth the price in the end..
