We've also got confirmation of at least one Autobot who will survive Overlord's upcoming rampage (unless it's just his ghost lololol). And huh, Trailcutter's spotlight takes place in the present. I guess all of these spotlights aren't all flashbacks after all? Unless it's something like each one moves further and further into the future.
Trailbreaker looks good! He was my very first TF when I was a kid so it's nice to see him get his own spotlight.
They don't have a trademark on Trailbreaker anymore. Also, RID cover is neet. Also, MTMTE cover worries me.
Trailcutter? Really? Which hasn't stopped names like Hot Rod and Bombshell in comics before, because they're not aimed at kids who have trouble connecting faces to a alternate name. Hasbro, we know who "Trailcutter" is supposed to be. We aren't stupid, and would like you to respect our preference to his original name. PLEASE stop forcing name changes in our comics as some ass-backwards way of marketing them.
I don't really have a problem with the name changing if they played off it in MTMTE; like having all the other bots on the Lost Light calling him different names and having Tailgate ask him "whats with the different names?" and Trailbreaker tells the story of how he got the names Trailcutter and Trailblazer.
This is looking to be pretty damn exciting. That cover makes it look like Bee, Metalhawk and Starscream will have to team up - that's certainly a cool and unexpected combination. Sounds like it's going to hit the fan in MTMTE, I hope we don't have a LSotW-level bodycount, I'm really attached to the cast there. The cover with Drift certainly makes me wonder what that could be implying... very cool possibilities. Super glad to see some non-A-listers get a Spotlight, it helps make them matter more and ultimately make them A-listers in their own way.
I mean, I get that it's supposed to be funny and all, but there is no way I'm going to buy THAT cover for the Trailbreaker Spotlight. Somehow the cartoony face crosses over from stylistic license and into full-on MAD-magazine derpy. Hard to say what Bombshell's fate will be, but we did see Hot Rod go to Rodimus, while still pretty much staying Hot Rod in essence. I think it's really Hasbro's way of protecting their investments. Trailbreaker and Trailblazer are probably off-limits for them, so Trailcutter is the best they could do, and they're trying to create some kind of unity with their brand by imposing the name changes on the comics too. I understand their logic, though it does feel a bit like trying to retcon ACTUAL history (as in, we all know him as Trailbreaker). And just to be clear, I will NEVER refer to him as Trailcutter. Not in terms of toys, not in terms of referring to this comic. As far as I'm concerned, "Spotlight:Trailcutter" doesn't exist, and I'm going to give pained, patronizing looks to anyone who attempts to correct me. I agree, but I'm sure it's already in use. A shame... I could have gotten behind that. zmog
LOL, Trailbreaker has to take over Red Alert's job of being paranoid and seeing danger everywhere? I am still miffed by the Hasbro-pushed standard name-changes - first Octane is now Tankor, then Hot Rod becomes Rodimus, now Trailbreaker Trailcutter... I'm glad they were not this pushy in the dreamwave era, lest we would have had Shockblast instead of Shockwave and Silverstreak instead of Bluestreak.
Wow, people sure are angry about some second-string nobody getting a name change. I love how the character is only just now recieving attention in comics, or anywhere really, now that he has a new name.
Rodimus Prime was sometimes just called "Rodimus" in season three. I don't remember an instance during The Ultimate Weapon where he was called "Rodimus Prime" instead of just Rodimus. Rodimus in IDW is more than Hot Rod, but less than Rodimus Prime. Hence Rodimus. He did go by the name Hot Rod for ages and he got his name changed by a significant event. He is still called Hot Rod in Regeneration One so its not a forced change. Trailbreaker has been called both that and Trailcutter in IDW too, sometimes even in the same sentence. IDW is gradually changing his name from Trailbreaker to Trailcutter in the comics. Hasbro wouldn't have forced the change overnight but name recognition with the product on the shelves is in their favor.
Hmm, just noticed the cover - Lockdown is back? Don't know many other Cons with hooks for hands, and with him and Drift having a shared past history, makes sense he'd come to the Lost Light. Trailbreaker a second-string nobody? He has a forcefield! And he ... well, he gets around! He was in Dinobot Hunt, and then got shot in the head by Scourge during Target 2006! And then he heroically spent his time in stasis until the coming of Unicron! Nah, I am being sarcastic. I liked him for his unique ability and just for having a cool design. Trailbreaker also has a special place in my heart because when translated to Hungarian, his name is synonymous with the Soviet Youth organization called, well, Trailbreakers - which was mandatory for every kid back before 1990 in any Soviet-occupied countries, like mine (thankfully I just missed the 'deadline' and was never a member... only for its pre-teen sub-organization, the "Little Drummers" - it was much the same, just with blue neckties). And imagining Trailbreaker in a red tie and spouting communist propaganda just cracks me up.
My money is on him getting puzzled on some bad Nightmarefuel and hallucinating up a storm, or some such thing someone brewed. Possibly Swerve.
