If it picks up a few years after an incident established in the 1st 3 films, then it's a continuation.

If it starts over from scratch as if the other films never existed, then it's a reboot.

Since when is Transformers a "little movie" also what the hell Bay? Not a reboot is, it is a reboot you could at least just tell us the truth, and i realize how stupid that sounded but still

Depends on how you define "better". And if by better you mean a complicated, near masterpiece level toy that no 5 year old kid could even possibly hope to transform on his own.

The previous movie lines were already pushing that boundary line. A whole line of TFs designed with the same design philosophy as ROTF Leader Prime would be doomed to failure before it even began. The kids simply wouldn't want them because they can't transform them.

IMHO, if Hasbro is going for a design reboot, it'd be better to start making movie figs simpler, so the kids can actually transform and play with them. And do a seperate "Movie Masterpiece" line of super detailed and intricate transformation figs for the older kids and collectors.

    It's far more likely that:

Mark Wahlberg is as familiar with the actual definition of "reboot" as most of the people on TFW2005 (meaning, not very)... or

Michael Bay knows that people such as those on TFW2005 clamor at every tiny tidbit of info on these movies, and got with Wahlberg and decided to troll at maximum levels by having him say "complete reboot" in interviews.

Wahlberg probably doens't know shit, He doesn't know anything about the franchise who Megatron is etc etc etc, (sound familiar Hugo Weaving?) he probably hasn't even read the script yet so I'd go by Bay's word not Wahlberg.
And this has no bearing on the fact that I would still do Mark Wahlberg in a second if I could.

I've heard that apparently in the new transformers film the back story is that they all used to be normal vehicles but then got exposed to a glowing chemical which gave them the ability to transform

....and eat pizza. Rather than being aliens.

I'm thinking by Reboot he means a new direction not focusing on megatron, with a new human cast.

I think we should just consider this as nothing concrete. Next week Wahlberg is just as likely to say 're-imaging' or some other similarly vague description when he talks publically about the direction of the movie. We already tied ourselves in knots a short while back when Bay was using various different terms to describe the next direction and this is just the same thing from a different mouth. Seeing an actual confirmed new TF design for the movie would be a far better indicator of where things will be going.
    Mark Trollberg? :p

With the same script and lack of screen time for the bots and cons, I doubt this version will be better than the past travesties. Fight scenes will need to be intensified, dragged out more, and not just one sided with "pew pew pew pew! Kerplosion! I'm Michael Bay!". The human soldiers got little screen time and little character development, and the catering to ditzy, clutzy, boppy, tools that aren't even fans is not even an effort to call Bayformers a complete movie.

The idea of "looking alien" is innovative, yet not as wonderful when applied in one direction for every character model of the Bayformers, I mean, Tool-formers. The Bayformers, I mean, Tool-formers, transform, yes. But their transformation's limited, relying on being too complex to please the one sided generation of movie only fans or narcissistic tools that think themselves as BAMFs, when they never knew squat of Transformers or think they should deserve to know it, when they only saw the movie?

"Aight, there be a Transformers cartoons from the 80's, Aight? Looks like a knockoff!" ...... Fucking seriously...

This reboot might not even be the reboot all readers and fans expect. Hell, does Bay or any of the writers read some of the arguments made on TFW, and call all posts "haters-be-hating, bohizzleshizzlenizzle, dopdipbopbickle?..." Does that guy even read half the ideas or stuff?

Probably not... "Cause dem haters be hating, AIGHT?!"

Reboot most likely means (to me at least) Hot Rod (Rodimus) Ultra magnus, Galvatron, Cyclonus, and the rest of the POST 84 movie cast with less emphasis on the core 5 characters of the first 3 movies.

Unfortunately this will likely mean rather than choosing from 100 or so existing players in the mythos, we will likely get some new bayformers that have never existed before.

I am particulary looking forward to the battle between honey-boo-boo-tron and Gansta-maximus. (or whatever other steryotype is used)

Mark Wahlberg said, “I am. We’re doing a complete reboot of the Transformers.

    ---

I like this guy... i like this guy a lot just for saying this and ruining any chance Bay had at claiming it was a sequel.

I'm sure everyone on here knew it was a reboot right? Hasbro even stated it was when TF4 was confirmed xD

Its going to be set 4 years after the events of TF3 and it wont mention any of the events of the previous films at all :3

Because at the moment they wants people to think its a sequel so they think its going to be a continuation of the story they've previously seen... instead its going to be Revenge of the Fallen mark 2.

    Pretty much this... all you need to do to find the truth is pretty much think the opposite of whatever Bay says... at which point;

Mark wahlberg will not be in the film -> Mark Wahlberg is in the film
The film will not be a reboot -> The film is a reboot
The film will focus on the Transformers Lore and be a good gift to the fans -> The film will be designed to sell toys and will be hated by many
The film will not suck -> Its going to be ROTF
