It.... looks just like Hero Optimus Prime. Yay? This may as well be the box art for the original G2 toy. I'm not saying it's bad, but...... just generic. And boring.

MTMTE and Optimus Prime!? Awesome! Maybe I will subscribe the magazine!
    (few seconds later)
Wait a minute, "Optimus Prime"? But, he is under the name of Orion Pax in MTMTE and RID...
    (read the article)
...It wasn't IDW's MTMTE comic series...

Sorry to poop on this, but it makes no sense. Truck mode's windshield is shown on feet. Yet chest is crafted to like a windshield, obviously a G1 homage. Now, if this were a toy, I'd accept this as a false part(where the toy can't realistically be as complex as the fictional counterpart, so rules are bent for character design accuracy) but this isn't a toy. Did OP choose to have a glass-armored chest cavity, though vitals would be less protected? Or, is it so he is recognizible after a makeover? The only possible way this makes sense is if they were two vehicles combined to begin with. Also, the tires of the abdomen area and the feet area are likely not the same size. I don't typically like to point out flaws and stuff, but I saw the title and thumbnail and immediately thought this was a sneak peek one of their exclusive toys for the year. Oddly enough, I came to the computer seeking info on the original mold use for RID Scourge, so my mind was in a similar place. Really odd, don't you think?

I'm confused. It's based on the G2 Combat Hero Prime, fake windows and all.

If only Unicron would eat Funpub, so we didn't have to deal with all these stupid alternate reality stories. :/

I don't get why everyone's so confused. This isn't supposed to be a new toy reveal or anything, it's just a new bio incorporating the G2 Hero Optimus Prime figure into FunPub's current fiction. He already appeared at the end of the Invasion Prologue webcomic they put out last year, and this is basically backstory for that.

They've long done club fiction-specific bios for general retail toys - for example, they did one for Clssics Mini-Con Swoop establishing him as G1 Swoop after being caught in a Nucleon explosion.

I second that but it would have to be better than the original for me to buy.

For example the Classics Laser OP/Scourge/Nemesis Prime mold disappointed me. Aside from wrist articulation the original was far superior imo in poseability, size, look and of course accessories. Even with the Maketoys upgrade I feel the original figure with it's disc and missile launchers was a far better overall.

So with that in mind for this to be an "update" of hero prime, he would need a giant missile launcher with 2 missiles that store on his back, have all the original poseability and then some (the original has pretty admirable poseability already) and be a decent representation with modern detailing added on. If that's not met I'm just sticking with the original.

lol Fun pub is getting way to DC in all the alternate universe stories.

I like the original toy, even if it is a pain in the ass to stand upright without it looking like he hyperflexed both knees.

Curious on how they'll play with the character though.

Energon rodimus with a little chest remold and a new head would make an excellent hero optimus prime update. I wonder if they will make it happen

Wow some people just don't seem to understand this news article.

This is a preview for a page in the upcoming Transformers Collectors Club magazine, where they write up a full page biography for an old G2 toy who has been making appearances in their comics. This isn't a toy announcement! The toy came out a 19 YEARS AGO, but didn't really get to appear in much fiction back then.

In the TF club comics there is a team of transdimensional heroes called "The Convoy" who is made up of a lot of obscure Autobot leaders. This guy is one of the team.

The story mentioned in the bio is from an obscure G2 Japanese Comic Bon Bon story:

    http://tfwiki.net/wiki/The_New_Battle!!

That comic story is the place where Forstonite first appeared, the energy source that was used to give the Transformers their new powers and form in the Botcon "Generation 2 Redux" story. Cute little tie-in that about a dozen Transformers geeks on the planet would have noticed!

Would you prefer the Takara "everything is G1, even when it's not" timeline?

Energon Rodimus as Machine Wars Optimus would be more amusing.

I love Hero Optimus Prime. He was the first "car" Transformer I ever had, I think.

DC makes excellent stories which push the boundaries of the imagination. What's wrong with alternate universes?

You meand DC used to :lol

That said, DC apparently finds a lot of things wrong with alternate universes. Since the 80s, they've cut the Infinite Earths concept to 52 a few years ago and now down to 2. Their current initiatives seem to try and shun the multiple universes of ages past, which runts contrary to the one being done in the Club comic. Sad really, since they were one of the first to popularize the parallel earths concept, and it was part of what made some of their classic stories really special.

If ever, what the club is doing actually reminds me more of Marvel's Exiles. a team of heroes pulled from across parallel universes helping to stop crises across all realities, a great comic until Marvel ran out of writers that could write it properly. I still believe the concept was a great one.

That would be an interesting update. I really like the concepts they did for the original TF Universe line, where they could push all sorts of repaints and reissues out with some minor tooling. Doing one with Rodimus would be in the spirit of the original line.

I'd love a new Hero Optimus figure.
