Mark Wahlberg is not appearing in Transformers - we are working together on Pain & Gain but i can confirm he is not appearing in Transformers. (Shortly after this statement Mark Wahlbreg was confirmed to be in the film) There have been rumors of recent casting choices for Transformers 4, i can tell you that none of the current casting choices in the news will be appearing in Transformers 4 (Shortly before there was rumors of Jack Reynor being included) I am currently not talking to paramount on T4 and T5 despite reports (Shortly after this TF4 was confirmed... TF5 and TF6 have now been confirmed also) TRANSFORMERS 4 Is Not a Reboot (Stated recently, despite the entire cast other than Optimus and Bumblebee being different. i kinda hope they do not make to much more movies, cause i think it risks getting stale. as much as i want to see more TF movies, i want qulity vs quantity.
These movies are directly responsible for reinvigorating my interest in the franchise, so I'm onboard with Michael's vision. 3 more movies sounds fine to me, no worries. Doesn't mean I'll like every new character or interpretation, but I have no disparaging 'cutesy' remarks to make at this point.
It does seem like risk taking is way down when it comes to the Transformers line instead of the influx of movie cash letting take big gambles. We have the Fall of Cybertron figures, but that seems to be due more to the War for Cybertron figures doing well when Hasbro tested the waters of video game Transformers toys. Even the Combaticons seem to be more of Hasbro had tested the combiner waters with Power Core Combiners to see what people would buy. About the biggest gamble Hasbro has taken lately with Transformers is the introduction of the Bot Shots line. Even the retailers seem shy about taking the chance of well stocked shelves because so many people have been talking about bare or almost bare shelves where they live. So yea the movies have been good for Hasbro but it's not resulting in some new golden age that people predict every time one of the films do well at the box office. As you pointed out Hasbro seems more timid about the line outside of exclusives than taking bold risks. Retailers don't have that frenzied desire for more products like when the first movie line sold out quickly.
Well since the last movie made so much money I nearly expected many more movies. Lets just see what the new cast and plot is/can do and how this triology turns out to be. I will watch all movies so I can say something about it and I won't praise or criticize it before I have seen the movie.
I also was hoping to get a new director. IMO we need a "new take" on the style that the movie-verse has built.
You think Bay wants to do this? Bay's been living the high life for a while. He has his little empire with expenses and staff and a private jet to think of. Maybe there's still a bad taste there where Hasbro took advantage of the movie success to overload some retailers with more stock than they could hope to sell. Hasbro's variation on the typical 'crisis of captialism' where demand leads to overproduction.
I completely agree. I used to defend Bay and the movies a lot. However, Bay has had his trilogy. I can't believe there is a very good chance that he's going to direct a whole new Transformers trilogy. That could actually happen. I'm speechless at the thought. Does he not want to do other action films? I suspect that a lot of it is down to Paramount, grabbing him by the balls and saying "We'll only let you do your own passion-project (Pain & Gain) if you agree to do more Transformers films". All this talk of how “different” TF4 will be. We all know it won’t be. Michael Bay is only capable of making a Michael Bay film. Honestly, I really don't think Bay will be done at four.
lol I don't believe anyone ever said that the movies would make anyone's dreams come true. In fact this is the biggest problem with the fandom, justified entitlement. Just because you haven't gotten want you wanted isn't because of "the movies". It's because Hasbro just didn't do that. I mean inbetween the two first films we got a Deluxe Straxus(Darkmount) in the Generations line. So we cant really say they never took any chances just because character X on someone's personal fav list still hasn't gotten a toy. Yeah, but the thing with the original film line is that it was flying off the shelf faster then they could keep it on. That's why people say that it was good for the franchise, becasue it made it a lot more money then it was making. But basically, no one said that the movies making Hasbro more money for the franchise would also make anyone's personal dreams come true...that's just silly. All they mean is that it made enough money for the franchise so Hasbro had the money to do some cool stuff. Which they actually did between 2007 and 2009...Then it kind of went down hill. That's not how retail works. A Co cant just push product on a store and force them to sell it. It's actually more the other way round. The Co basically sells their product to the retailer, and they decide how much of it they want to put on the selves. the retailers were actually the one's who went bonkers for the movie line originally. They were making a lot of money off it too. So the retailers kind of have themselves to blame for DOTM clogging shelves.
deluxe figures are about the most low-risk transformer product Hasbro puts out. They always sell. Darkmount wasn't any more of a risk than every other nobody character they come up with to fill out a line. Indeed they tried to moderate any perceived risk by giving a resident Cybertronian an earthmode. There's no sense of entitlement, we take what we can get, as much as we might wish they would make the kind of products we want to buy. I didn't say that either. what is this cool stuff you are thinking of? Bearing in mind that they were making cool stuff even before the movies (I know, what a surprise).
