Next up in our series of Transformers Fall of Cybertron Deluxe Wave 3 Galleries we have a look at Sideswipe. Sideswipe is one of the three remolded figures in the assortment. He's a remold of Autobot Jazz, and he is the most extensively remolded of the three reused molds in this wave.

Starting with the vehicle mode, the new look is very different to Jazz's car mode, and conveys that sleek, powerful look the Sideswipe character is usually known for. So far so good. Robot mode though was where Jazz was at his weakest, sorry to say the same is true of Sideswipe. The remolding to give Sideswipe his game-accurate spoiler has removed the peg that was on the Jazz version of the mold that helped the back to peg in. What this means is now the robot mode's upper torso rests on two clips near the shoulders, and they like to pop out quite often. There's also something a bit off in the whole face sculpt, and the poseability and proportions are the same as on Jazz. That being said, the gun - which has an extending barrel in a nice touch - is a very welcome addition, but is generally too heavy for Sideswipe to hold properly, especially with the aforementioned shoulder issues.

All in all, Sideswipe is easily the weakest release of the wave. One for fans of the character or the overall design style, but not one I'd recommend over the other toys in the assortment, especially with Starscream, Kickback and Air Raid in the same cases.

Open the link below to check out the gallery, which includes some comparisons with Fall of Cybertron Jazz as well as Universe Sideswipe.

How does he compare to Jazz overall? Do you like him more or less?

I'm wishing they could squeeze more characters out of these molds... Prowl, Sunstreaker, Bluestreak, Tracks, Wheeljack, Breakdown... or that they had a few more coming for FOC. I'd love to see that shelf filled out with the bulk of the G1 season 1 cast.

Honestly, the shoulders put me off on this enough that I prefer the Jazz. The car modes, I like Sideswipe's better, but that peg that goes into his back to secure it was something that I took for granted until it was gone.

I really didn't want to hate these toys. I was STOKED about getting new video game toys...but man. I have to agree with you.

Every new Hasbro Transformer I purchased from this line has been frail, terribly designed, lame paint, atrocious engineering, small and just...cheap. The retail FOC Bruticus looks and feels WORSE than a KO toy you'd find in the dollar store.

    Not impressed. At all.

I wish I could be, but truth is, I am not.

That's one thing some of these toys do have are good heads.

Sideswipe, Swindle, Onslaught, and even Brawl all have very cool head sculpts.

It's official, I like the gun better than the toy itself.

My suggestion to you, and anyone else who feels burned from recent releases and wants a toy to restore their faith in the line, is pick up Kickback. He's got a bit more mass than most, feels that little bit sturdier, and looks really good. I'm personally hoping he is the proof that all we're seeing is a phase and that he's the light at the end of the tunnel.

Sad to say is I do agree, while I think the new toys are still cool I think we've had it really good for toys particularly in the 2008 - 2010 period and that's spoiled us, because we're seeing a bit of a come down now and it's hard to approach anything without thinking of how good things were before.

An alternative I'd suggest is Air Raid, because he is far and away the one toy I've so much fun with lately. But that's for a different topic another day (namely when I get his gallery done!)

I wish I could just buy his head in a bag, so I could put it on my Classics version. Anyone want to cast this head?

Not a fan of this recent "tiny hollow leg"-thing they have going on, but that still looks like a sweet figure.

For some reason this guy feels more like a modern classics Lightspeed then he does Sideswipe. Mostly in the alt-mode.

lol yeah I was just thinking the same. I just want to buy that gun.

Rahahahaha. Yeah, getting the in-game blasters is awesome. But yeah, with the hollow wonky legs... looks like Jazz and Sideswipe will be taking a seat there on the SECOND row of the WFC/FOC/Titaniums shelf... in the back.

I forgot we had Prowl in a cybertron mode from Titanium. Guess I need to work on kitbashing a Bluestreak and Smokescreen.

    What to do for Sunstreaker!?

I don't hate this really. The gun is super sweet, but the figure isn't bad either. I think I will grab this and do a little repainting to jazz it up a bit. It feels so close to being really cool and I think a little black paint here and there will really bring this figure to life.

The bot mode is cool but the insect mode looks terrible in reviews. I was hoping his hind legs were miss-transformed but it looks like that the correct way. Which looks crazy...

You were right about being spoiled back in 08-10 because right now, things are just depressing. So dare I even ask what's coming out after that Wreckers wave in "13"....
