Oh, we can have nice things (Hi, MTMTE!). Michael Bay just seems to like to pack them with C4, bad leads, and panty shots.

Wait...That girl was Katara from Last Airbender?

She...She has a Razzie nomination under her belt and she's only been in less than 10 movies...
And of course, now she has a lead in Transformers 4.

I was fortunate enough to miss that movie. How bad are we talking, acting-wise?

I'm a big Avatar fan and a movie fan at that, the movie itself was horrid by itself, the way they portrayed everything, but the actors were the worst part, and to me, her and the kid playing Aang were the worst ones, both of which deserving of a Razzie.

Overall, I'd say her acting is worse than any character in the first three films, and that includes Leo, the tight shirt frat boys, and the humping dogs.

Terrible, but at least she shows more emotion than Kristen Stewart. Then again, so does a watermelon...

@a person: An optimist could theorize that she improved since then, perhaps inspired by her previous poor performance, but I'm not exactly an optimist. Don't get me wrong, I like the Bayverse, but I don't put the female love interests' role as one of the big ones - Mikaela always seemed bratty thanks to Megan Fox's default expression, and while Carly's actress was OK, the character was tainted by the writing foul-up that led to Sam looking like a cheat - I doubt they intended it, but they dropped the ball.

Lord, I would have preferred Maggie Madsen - I'd have had the Decepticons go looking for her because she had the bit of code that she smuggled out of the Pentagon for Glen to look at, only to have the Autobots intervene. Either that or have Lennox's wife looking to sell stuff on eBay to start a college nest egg for the baby (Annabelle, I think).

Why don't they cut the crap and get rid of the humans? Or at least make them only 15% of the movie. We all watched the movies for big, shiny robots blowing up stuff... but then we get dumb scenes of parental characters I could care less about talking about "happy time" for Sam.

Budgetary reasons - the CGI for the Transformers is damned expensive, and honestly, on Earth, I'm thinking that the Transformers' massive size works against them, excluding them from more scenes than would be otherwise.

The trick here is to get decent, well-written human characters, like Lennox and Epps. Simmons and Dutch would be cool too.

    You and me both.

Anyway, I don't have any allusions about this 4th movie. The first 3 movies demonstrated to me the inability of the filmmakers to make me honestly care about any of the characters or their plights whether they be human or machine. I don't expect that to change on the 4th outing.

Oh great, we've got a damn Aussie playing a "biker boyfriend". Thanks, Michael Bay. You're stereotypical characters truly are the best. And by that, I mean that they're awful. We also have a bimbo that..... well, we don't need any more bimbos in Transformers.

Why can't we have a strong female lead for once? I mean, Carly wasn't the strongest in G1, but she worked pretty well (not as well as Spike), and at least one of the three from Prime are good..... Is it too much to ask to not have generic characters? I kinda like that they're going for a father/daughter thing, but really, we've already had a similar thing with the past three movies.

Now, I'm going to give this movie the benefit of the doubt (as I did with ROTF and especially DOTM), but I really don't think this will be anything special. I'm still disappointed that they didn't choose a different director for TF4. Michael Bay's had his turn, but nope, we have to wait until TF5 (PLEASE GOD DON'T LET THAT BE A THING it's going to be thing son of a bitch) for that to happen. I don't know why Steven Spielberg didn't just take over. I think he could make some more interesting human characters (granted, he wouldn't be writing, but he at least wouldn't use stereotypes and explosions in conjunction for two hours). There are plenty of other directors out there that could make a great Transformers film, too.

I know this argument has come up a lot, but Michael Bay's stereotypical characters are starting to run thin, and really, a lot of Transformers has always been strong characters. Sure, there are also strong stories in some continuities, particularly the comic books, but the characters are more often than not what shine.

Whilst that's true, I get sick of seeing that as the reason. Why can't we have some smaller Transformers, like Minibot-sized characters? Look at G1, for example (or really, any Transformers series): there are some Transformers that are small like humans (G1 Bumblebee, for example, and I believe Rumble, Frenzy and the like are a bit smaller than human-size, but I could be wrong), then there are the ones that are definitely smaller, such as Lazerbeak, and finally, you have the taller Transformers, such as Prowl, Ironhide, Ratchet, and Jazz.

Of course, Megatron and Optimus Prime tend to tower over everyone else, but why not have some smaller almost-human-size Transformers that allow them to have more screen time because they're not annihilating their budget whenever they show them? It just seems like common sense to me.
