I live in the Philly suburbs and even I know it would not do well here. The unions kill every large scale show that comes here. It would do MUCH better in NYC or Baltimore.
Wha . . . . . . omg. I am in total shock. I was expecting the east coast. Turns out I don't need to fly anywhere now. This is awesome news for me.
After years of not being able to afford admission, airfare, and hotel... it's coming to my hometown. I'm finally going to get to go to Botcon, and not be in the poorhouse in order to do so. I have just officially cancelled my SDCC plans to save money just for this. I know I sound very understated, but off the keyboard I'm almost screaming in joy.
hey guess what, those post were made BEFORE the fucking credit card incident and the constant shit they continued to due after that I waited 7 years to go to botcon, you bet your ass I was excited, it was funpub's complete poor treatment of its attendees and customers that made me hate them and the apology was a joke about how I use to complain about botcon never coming close to texas seriously, what is your problem
I know, I know...just dreaming. I can't afford to go across the freaking country year after year. And the last con in the east coast was Florida. Baltimore convention center would have been perfect. The ballpark right across the street too.
As disappointed as I am that the convention is about as far away from me as possible and still be in the contiguous 48, you are ruining the thread. We get it. You don't like FunPub and want to see them burn to the ground. Many people will be excited and want to attend. Your attacking of that decision is unnecessary.
Shame. it's now SDCC or Botcon. I think this will be my first botcon, since I've been to SDCC a few times.
San Diego is a very beautiful city, at least it was when I was there 30 years ago. I had a ton of fun at Sea World, and crossing the border was, well, interesting to say the least. Sadly it's the same time as my big 40th birthday bash in Vegas, so I can't go. I hope you'll all have fun there and EAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! Drink a growler as well (my UK friends will appreciate that part).
I still think the timeframe is BAD but I can totally see why they would go back to California. * Hasbro won't need to move much of anything very far between Botcon tear down and SDCC set up * Movie hype = close to Hollywood and we know it's easier to get guests when they are LOCAL (speaking of which, how about a full on Wierd Al concert Pete * There is a core group that is going to attend Botcon no matter WHERE it is, those people can almost be banked on with no regard to location. Others will go only if it's withing easy driving distance, but FP does well when they can pull in the EXTREMELY local "hey, this is in town, let's check it out with the kids" crowd. So having it in a major population center like San Diego makes perfect sense. I still think this is too close / not close enough to SDCC (the weekend BEFORE would have been a TON better but probably a TON more expensive for them AND us). Northern California would have made more sense IMHO.
Then just make it permanently somewhere in California. Most conventions stay in the same place every year, and do just fine with that. Plus, maybe then you won't have to take so long to get a date and place announced, and people can just plan for it always being in the same city. All you're doing with bouncing around is getting people's hopes up only to disappoint the majority. I know that's what you've always done, but it's pretty obvious you'd prefer to just always do it in California, and I think you'd be better off just staying consistent.
I'm using your tears to shine my boots. I'm almost done, so keep em comin' Joking aside. The CC deal was a hiccup and passed. Holding it against them now seems very petulant. Just curious, If Wal-Mart sells you a broken toy will you boycott them in a similar way? Of course not. If the news had been that Botcon was going to be in Texas again I think you'd be singing a very different toon. For someone who claims they would never give another dime to Funpub, you seems very pissy about Botcon not being in your backyard again...
i'm...excited. Will be fun to revisit SD, I lived there a while, haven't been there in 3 years. An excuse to go there next summer...
Well, I guess it's officially become a pattern. Meanwhile, I'll be waiting for another Botcon I can actually afford to go to. Hope it's fun for the guys who are able to go, though!
I wouldn't give a damn if Botcon was down the street, I will never go again until funpub is out of control of it. I am complaining about the location because it just keeps going back to california, screwing over everyone who lives on the other side of the country that haven't had a chance to go since at most 2008 (counting ohio). I stick by my word With that I am done with this thread, its all your choice to go to botcon, and I hope people who do go have fun, but I just say just be careful, and use a prepaid debit card when ordering your botcon package
Too close to SDCC. Definite pass for me. Rather be in SD for SDCC a few weeks later, which I will be.
