Buffalo was NEVER rumored to be an actual show location, it was only mentioned because someone asked about something close to Canada, and Buffalo is as close as you can get.

Actually, garbage like the Chicago Union rules for conventions is where an anti-union rant is justified. You can be pro-union and anti-union-bullshit simultaneously. :)

But this is why Rosemont exists. All the Chicago con-ness, none of the Chicago unions.

Wish I could go, but I already have three vacations planned for this year, Phoenix, San Jose/San Fran, and Auburn Alabama (for a football game). Would love to go to San Diego, and glad that Botcon puts in in places where I would actually like to go do other stuff. There is no way I could spend a whole weekend at a Transformers convention, and at least a place like San Diego offers some pretty cool stuff to do.

It is never going to be convenient for everyone, and even though it was in some people's backyard last year, they are still going to complain this year. If it isn't in your backyard, look at it as a way to get out and see some of the greatness that this country has to offer. For me, unless they did it in Oregon or Washington, all the location determines is how many beers I am going to be drinking on the flight, cause there is no way I am sitting in a car for 12+ hours for a roadtrip, my college days are over.

You hit another reason why convention organizers pick locations like California and Florida. They also want a pleasant environment for it's location and other things to do for the attendees other than the convention itself. No offense to the people living there but Buffalo, NY or a lot of the big cities in the mid-west gives the extra reason for people to go to Botcon.

It's also the 30th Anniversary and 20th BotCon. Maybe a return to Rhode Island is in order.

More like its because BotCon wouldn't even make a dent in doing it at McCormack Place, seriously it doesn't even register in that place(they have changed a lot of the union rules relating to events here).

Rosemont is much more suited for things of this nature.

I am disappointed that it is so far away again, that part sucks. Just looking at travel plans it would be $400 hit a plane ticket and a $540 hotel stay(at host hotel). It doesn't work if u have 2 kids and going cross country lol

This west coast bias is getting old.

Its also a reason so many fan Cons have been put together in the last few years. It may not be as big or great, but at least u can afford to go and it won't take u a days worth of travel or more to get there.

I for one, like the rotating convention. It's not going to be at the same venues every year becuase it's expensive... I for one would love to see botcon in San Francisco, but SF is damned expensive... I live in N.Cal and dont mind a road trip. Got a couple people who want to go, maybe car pool.
Took me years to be able to go to a botcon, and 2011 was my first. I do think it should be on the other coast, but as far as I'm aware they get the most attendance in Cali...

BotCon shouldn't even be considered a traveling convention. I went to Cali in 2009 and it was cool with the paramount thing but 2009, 2011, and now 2013 in Cali is foolish. Good for CA residents but no the east cost fan where the last closest con was in 2008!!!
