So glad I cancelled my membership. Another year goes by with no Northeast Botcon. Glad to save my money for NJCC.
Have they ever been known as the "East Coast Convention"? They had the one in Florida which almost doesn't count to me since it's just as far away as middle America, and the one in Rhode Island back in 2007. Were their others? They must know that we don't mess around on the East side. We'll cut them for what they have done to this once proud hobby.
I've stayed at this resort many times. It's a beautiful place with very nice rooms. Many swimming pools are available. It is walking distance to a mall with many places to eat. It is a five minute drive to Outback and other restaurants. The trolley is walking distance. For a weekend pass, (which I think is $15-$20) you can get unlimited access to all of San Diego. The Gaslamp district is fun as well as Seaport Village. The convention center is on the grounds with the hotel. They are about a short 2-3 minute walk from each other. I was at a conference there back in 03 and remembered thinking it would be a fun place for BotCon. My wife and I have stayed there multiple times for Comic-Con (commuting on the trolley to the HUGE convention center) and enjoyed it very much.
..this is both the best and worst news possible for Botcon for me. I might be able to swing by one of the days (hopefully), but swinging the full package..I dunno, and I would hate to go and not get a Primus pack.
BotCon is second on my bucket list (Right between meeting Kevin Smith and WrestleMania,) so for me, I'm going, (In Optimus Prime voice) no matter the cost
From talking to a lot of dealer friends from all over, Philly, Chicago and several other big cities have some pretty harsh union rules. They require both the promoter and every dealer to pay for thier loads to be unloaded and brought to the various booths by the union members adding a LOT of extra expense for a service a lot of dealers don't want to pay and may even not be able to afford and still have the show be worth it to attend and be remotely profitable. We were going to do a show last year until we were informed that they had these union rules and it was going to cost an extra $380 on top of the show expenses even though I am perfectly able to load and set up my own merchandise. I was told it was not optional so we backed out. Note: not at all intended as an anti-union rant, simply stating this as a reason some locations could end up being less viable as a convention location.
I really wish i could figure out if I wanna go or not. The set sounds awesome but I can only imagine how much it would cost esp with me in VA
I can't exactly hear your accent to tell if you're realy English though the text now can I? Also I stole your Taco.
Yep, pretty sure there are more than 3 States in the United States of America.... I wonder if we'll see a Botcon north of the 4 corners, let alone the Mason-Dixon Line EVER AGAIN. I know there is a lot of West vs. East debate going on in this thread, but the true difference is the North vs. South.
Why isn't Alaska getting any BotCons?! Someone please, think of the Eskimos who keep getting screwed every year!
Why couldn't they have Botcon in Ten Sleep, Wyoming? They could have it at the Senior Center. They have a McDonald's and a Country Buffet near by. The Motel 8 and America's Best Value Inn is a few miles away and can easily accommodate the attendees.
