I just heard that after buying up Hasbro, Disney has it's sights on purchasing Toys R Us. Which will become a destination primarily focused on distribution of it's products.

Stop trying to troll everyone please.

It's a rumor, and one that is interesting.

Not the end of the world.

    Without a doubt.

It would probably also mean the end of Activision / High Moon video games as Disney likes to develop (when it can) and publish its games in-house under Disney Interactive Studios.

Perhaps they might still continue with Activision but I'd imagine Disney would then take strides to build-up its video game arm since it would own so many lucrative brands, such as Marvel and all of Hasbro's stuff.

This is a very interesting rumor to discuss. Think about all of the great things that could happen with Disney's funding ... then also think of the fucking horrible things that could happen with Disney's power.

    Very, very interesting ...

Seeing as how well Avengers did, I really don't mind.

You got me there with Toy Story 3. Tron Uprising I haven't seen yet though I am thinking of seeing it due to how good the show is from what I've heard.

Maybe since this just sprang up it caught me off guard and got me worried for a minture there. However I'm not being a doomsayer either so this may be a good thing just as long as Disney doesn't try to take over the Hub and it's shows. Just give it a bigger budget and better distrbutions and other things it can help with and I'm all for that.

Who is trolling? My point, (if any) is what Disney did with Star Wars is give people what they want. It's all going to become a Disney world where all our nerdy fanboy dreams come true. :D

I could be wrong on this, but The Avengers was written before the Disney buy out. I need to fact check that though.

Yep. Which is why I REALLY don't want this to happen. With how large IDW's Transformers line is growing, I just KNOW it'll be incredibly downsized if it goes back over to Marvel. Just look at what happened to the Disney comics after BOOM! lost the license to them.

Wouldn't antitrust laws prevent this. If it were to happen with Hasbro & Toys R Us, Disney would have the ability to create, develop, market, produce, & distribute all in-house without any involvement from outside resources.

They get to have their cake, and eat it too. I see a lot of red flags going up if Disney continues this powerplay (if it's true).

If the rumor is true... I hope Disney goes bankrupt before the big sale.

Q: Why would Hasbro even sell themselves to Disney? They aren't THAT broke!

I wonder what this would mean for the Hasbro / Takara relationship, if it were true?

Not necessarily, as long as there is what is considered effective competition in the same industry. I don't think antitrust laws cover vertically integrated companies, just competition/alternatives within the same industry/sector. At each step along the way from a consumer perspective, there are alternatives for their consumption from other companies, even if there would likely be significant pressure from Disney to integrate yourself into their market chain.

Now, if Disney tried to buy Hasbro AND Mattel, then maybe they'd be found in violation of antitrust laws, as those companies represent effectively the majority of the industry.

Naw, remember the Disney Store? There is no law against having a monoply on an Intilectual Property. Disney's plan at the momment is to own every single God Tier Property, with a focus on boy brands. With the profits made from Star Wars and Hasbro properties sold via Toys R Us, and movie ticket sales.... they plan to buy Japan.

Because Disney's totally never used CGI animation before, huh?
