I think the thing that bothers a lot of people is that he could have simply said "I haven't heard anything about TF4," but instead he spoke about how his work meant absolutely nothing to him, he had no interest in the character or the films, and partially regretted his involvement in the first place.

I'm with Bay on this. Fame is no excuse for apathy about what made you famous.

Fans of Transformers were excited, some more than others, that Hugo was voicing Megatron. That an actor of his calibre was stepping up to the iconic character. Especially, when there are so many amazing voice talents also competing for the role, its diminishing to classify a $1B movie franchise as an unfulfiling throw-a-way roll. Think of all the people in the background, voluteering even, just to be a part of the TF mythos.

I'm indifferent to Weaving and Bay's comments on this. Weaving wasn't awful, but no tmy first choice.

However, I don't feel David Kaye (as AWESOME as he is) would be good for Movieverse Megatron. Welker, yes.

But how about Fred Tatasciore (sp?) from the Dark of the Moon/WFC/FoC games? I think he'd fit doing Movie Megs officially!

Simple, just let Frank Welker do it! Why is this even a question?

Except this didn't make him famous....at all.

Movies like Lord of the Rings, Priscilla, and The Matrix made Hugo Weavings name as known as it is today.

I bet you the average movie goer didn't even realise Hugo Weaving voiced Megatron.

Bay's acting like a kid throwing a tantrum simply because while Weaving did the work, he didn't find it emotionally fulfilling. There's nothing wrong with that at all, we all end up doing work at some point, that doesn't fulfill us.

There seems to be an emotional component to Weaving's comments that I don't think he intended. I don't see him as being dismissive, I see him just saying it was a job, a minor one at that, and he has no real connection to the character. That's both understandable and acceptable, given the amount of lines he did have in all three movies.

That Michael Bay would take the time to issue a fairly pissy response is more a measure of him then of Hugo Weaving.

If Nimoy did it, it'd sound like they rebuilt Galvatron from Megatron using Sentinel's vocal processor.

Wait...that doesn't sound half-bad considering how he was repaired in RotF!

But I still vote for Welker!

Weaving's not wrong; there wasn't much meat on Megatron's role.
Bay's the one who hired a Box-Office Star at those prices. He could have hired a regular VO actor for 1/1000 of the cost.

My god, Bay shouldn't even care. Megs dead and he barely had any lines in any of the films. I can understand where Hugo is coming from because he was barely involved, didn't really have any emotional attachment to the franchise, and IIRC, most audience members didn't know he was in it.

It's true that we should appreciate small things in life... they do make us a bigger person. Huge should learn this (Don't get me wrong here. I like the guy. I think he did a superb job as Agent Smith of The Matrix Trilogy).

While i agree that just saying "i haven't heard anything" might be more tactful, why not be truthful? I mean, if you're Megan Fox, and transformers is the only thing that brought you out of the trailer park, than yeah, keep your mouth shut. But he's not Megan Fox, he's Hugo Fucking Weaving (actual middle name, look it up). Transformers didn't make him famous, he didn't audition for the role, it was just offered to him, so he took it because why not. If you had all the money you needed, would you jump at the chance to do a role for the fourth time that you weren't thrilled about doing in the first place?

I think its ridiculous that actors are expected to be grateful or satisfied for every role they play. Its their job. They get to be unsatisfied with their job sometimes too. Its when they complain about hardship that gets annoying, and thats not what Hugo was doing.

Go figure, an actor who got about 5 minutes of combined dialogue was a bit disappointed in the part.

How dare Weaving presume that FUCKING MEGATRON would actually get to have a prominent role in a movie about THE TRANSFORMERS.

This whole situation is a testament to how much the robots were the second bananas in their own movies.

Not really, Weaving also stated that the reason he didn't care about it was because he had no knowledge of the source material. He didn't know anything about Transformers to begin with. He just said he went in for less than 2 hours, did his lines, and was done. He never even met Bay.

so what he's really saying is that he went into the film with about as much knowledge about transformers as Bay did.
