In car mode. In bot mode he's almost dead on G1 scale with Prime. There's a copy of the size reference chart online. You can see MP Sideswipe, Soundwave, and Prime are in almost perfect robot scale. You have to pick one scale to do these in. I'm clad they chose robot. Transformers vehicles have always cheated even back way in the cartoon. I prefer they keep the robots in scale and let the alt modes be what ever size they have to to achieve that. Judging by what they did with alternity, I'm glad they didn't got that route here. While all those extra car details are nice, they come at the cost of stupid things like dangling seats. I can't stand the dangling seats on the robot mode of a lot of alternator and alternity toys. They disrupt the silhouettes of the robot in a greatly unpleasing fashion. Also, MP has never been about that kind of internal detail. It's about an exacting recreation of the G1 vehicle model and the robot model. This has both of those features. As for rubber tires, as it's been said, clearly you've never had some crack. I have no doubt TT did this as a cost savings measure, but doesn't mean I can't be thankful that I never have to worry about the rubber breaking.
You have to keep in mind that the Countach is a huge car, much wider and bigger than your average sports car. It's for this reason that the Lambo twins are generally seen as among the taller of the car bots, after Ironhide/Ratchet, Grapple/Inferno, and Hoist/Trailbreaker. Probably just a trick of light and shadow when taking photographs. MP-11 Starscream's new face sculpt had the same issue of "duck lips" but in hand, the mouth sculpting is actually quite nice. Lambor looks great. Can't wait to get him in hand!
I agree. I enjoy alternity/alternators stylings too, but those are more in the same vein as classics. Modern interpretations & updates of existing characters, and I'm fine with liberties taken in those lines. With the MP line, they are going for the most accurate definitive G1 version of the character. A definitive representation is different then an interpretation in that it uses modern technology to make as close to accurate portrayal of the original character as the maker possibly can. I think (even though MP-12 is small) they've accomplished that. A interpretation can take different liberties with the character and design, like alternator sideswipe. It still captures the essence of his character, but may not be pleasing to everyone who was a fan of the original. I'm just not a fan of the scale, but I can get over it if it's a good toy. I still wish every mp was basically the same size, as homages to their G1 character. I could care less how MP-10 looks next to MP-12.
saw that hes not much bigger than the deluxe versions of the FOC Prime..... in car mode..... im cool...... not the 'must have' especially at 80$..... will wait for US release, or wait to see more in hand pics.... sad.... I wasn't expecting huge btw.. i know they will all be 'small' but..... if i can 2 for 1 with US release, and a cooler deco... Im on it
had a few rid ones crack, nothing else, still prefer rubber over plastic, especially when the figure is barely over deluxe size for $90
Exactly right on the MP vs Alt. point. I like Alternity and Alternators figures for what they are, but it isn't what I want from MPs. It's funny, on your other point, I feel exactly the opposite. I love that we're finally getting a series that cares about robot scale. I love that Sideswipe is the perfect size against Prime. I also love that now we're getting smaller MPs, I no longer have to pay $100-$150 for every figure. More and cheaper MPs is alright with me.
Yes at best MP-10 is alternator sized.. (in vehicle mode trailer not included). In bot mode, yeah MP-10 is bigger but he's completely out of scale with Alternators bots, if scale's important to you:
My $7.77 Universe Sideswipe has plastic tires. Rubber tires are a must-have in an expensive Masterpiece. I'm very disappointed that Takara dropped them.
I'm personally the opposite, I'd rather the robot's size be dictated by some great looking alt modes.. I don't like keeping my tf's in bot mode at all times, so having vehicles scaling nicely with respect to each other is a bigger benefit than the bots all being a consistent height. Different height bots makes for different "personalities."
Yeah plastic tires are garbage. I was already on the fence about buying this thing, and it just lost a few more points. The new Hasbro Masterpiece Optimus doesn't have plastic tires does it?
Nope, they're rubber all around on TRU MP Prime. Even on the trailer. The Roller bot does not have rubber tires, though.
Don't care about rubber tires. I still agree with a lot of you that he isn't fitting the price point being asked, but the tires don't matter much to me. Alternities didn't have the restraints of copying G1 style, so they had more freedom. This figure does look like he matched up ok with G1, but he makes sacrifices other MPs haven't, like the hollow legs and his arms looking good from the front, but from the side they're too thin. Ah, still getting him, but it does make one wonder what the standard is for MPs now.
