Long and short of it; They can stop him from selling it but they can not use it themself to make profit.
That was way too coherent for TFW! I entirely agree with this, aside from the 'fair use and derivative license' cause allowing people to produce art within the scope of an IP.

But, yeah, and as already mentioned, without a huge cut and paste bypassing interpretation.

Its his art. Period. Hasbro/Takara, me, you, your grandma, anyone cannot legally use it without permission. Doesn't matter who's IP. He may not be able to sell it, but Has/Tak cannot just take it from him. I do think they would be cool about it to him if he just lets them know in a polite way that he is flattered, but the drawing is being used without permission...

Perhaps the way to go is to say "I can see you like my work as you seem to have used it on the Boxed set of the reissue Sixshot - so if you'd like to comission further such work from me please let me know".

Imagine if someone had done some big battle scene (like they used to put on the back of boxes) and they just took it of someones deviant art account and passed in off as their own work that would be even more outrageous.

Anyway as the earlier poster said the person i'd be miffed with would be the one who took wages to design box art and then spent a few minutes just modifying someone elses and passing it off as there own. I suspect Hasbro Asia never even knew the art was not original and only the weasel who did the modifying knew until now.

----------

Oh and here is a thought lets say someone decides to base their fan art work around unreleased promo art for products like the secret weapon assortment they are borrowing something Hasbro invented - but is it something Hasbro ever put through a legal process (other than publishing some of it in a Japanese art book) ?

And what if someone decided to write a whole webcomic featuring only third party toy characters ? like Ejector and Rewinder ? would Hasbro be saying hey that's Rewind - or would Perfect effect be complaining that someone pinching their characters... an amusing thought anyway.

But the idea of companies knowingly trawling google image for art work with the expectation of reusing it knowing that they can find stuff they don't have to pay for is pretty disgraceful.
That seems the sort of thing I'd expect from Marvel/Disney as much as anyone else.

I agree. Plus this is HIS rendition or imagination of what Sixshot is to HIM. Therefore, it's possible it was altered enough to be his "own IP".

Blitz should totally find a way to twist this into a job for him at Hasbro. Would totally buy Sixshot toy IF it ACTUALY LOOKED LIKE his design.

So, is there like a non-Asia exclusive version without the chrome?

Cause I think I'd rather have that...

The original reissue of the non chrome is quite a number of years ago.
