I was so happy to notice that the changes are near non-existent its really just the blue thats different and Roller having a switch oh and spikes smaller changes.

    so far I can see....
Spike similar but different in the face and arms
    Roller is blue
lighter blue replaces the darker blue
painted yellow rights on the cab
    eyes seem lighter

While I prefer the darker blue, painted light thingys above the windows are nicer.

Am I dense... or is the American version better than the Japanese version?

I like the Hasbro one better. Painted eyes and lights ftw.

I like the Hasbro Roller and Spike better, but I think I prefer the blue on Takara, at least based on these pictures and the lighting. A minor thing though given Hasbro's will be easier to get and cost less.

Takara's blue accurately matches the animation model.

It depends what you're looking for.

That blue on the Hasbro version looks terrible, although the shots at Botcon and SDCC looked better, so I'm assuming it's just lighting. While I do admittedly prefer the blue on the Takara version regardless (more accurate to the movie than Hasbro's vibrant blue, which is odd since Hasbro said they were trying to match the appearance of Prime in the movie), I'm sure I'll prefer the pricetag on the Hasbro version more, whenever it's officially revealed :lol

need better photos to see the actual colors/finish etc. the pictures from sdcc did look better. As for what is more "accurate", it would depend ont eh episode and "lighting" during the scene. Certainly fans of g1 TOY optimus wil note takaras is faithful to the toy as well as the animation whil the hasbro one is accuarte to certain episodes as well as teh marvel comic blue. spike is obviously better in the hasbro version. blue roller is better too (like the g1 toy!). i have a takara and i'm geting one of these too (at least 1), though i prefer the takara (as of right now but that may change). one thing is the takara one's finish is remarkable.

I like that his eyes are painted and he doesn't look dead like Takara's but you know the rule if he aint gray he's a okay.

Overall differances I see from the Takara Version

    Eyes are painted light blue
All of the Red seems slightly brighter
All of the blue is lighter including the truck windows
Painted Lights above the trucks cab
The Yellow on his waist is slightly darker
The inside of the trailer doesn't have silver sides.
    Rollor is blue
Spike has some vary minor paint changes

Also, Hasbro's version lacks the silver detailing along the wheel wells in truck mode.

I thought so too but a different angled shot made it seem there just really faint.

That's just a little bit of paint showing from the pieces that become the silver stripes on his torso in robot mode. At some angles, the portion that becomes part of the torso in robot mode is revealed. The actual molded detail for the area around his wheel wells in vehicle mode isn't painted on this like it is on the Takara version though. Not really a flaw, just another difference worth noting.

Works wonders for me. Easily a 9.5 out of 10, and I will be happy to take that home and place on my shelf, booting Battle Damage Hasbro MP01 out the door and on his way to ebay.

I've been debating if I should get the Takara version or the Hasbro one. I definitely like the Hasbro version 10 times more better. So I'm getting it.

There could never be a replacement for the epicness of mp01.
These pics make me like the Takara version better. But the pics from the conventions made me like the us version better. I think these pics are not very good and don't do the us version justice
